Page 6 of The Torment Games

Somewhere within the confines of this maze, there’s a female — just as lost, just as scared as I am — and the Malquarans expect me to…

The thought is unbearable. I can’t — I won’t — let that happen. I must find her first, to shield her from the horrors these Malquarans have in store.

But the maze seems to mock my efforts, its endless paths leading me to one dead end after another. Her scent lingers in the air, a beacon amidst the chaos, always tantalizingly close yet perpetually elusive. It’s like chasing a phantom, always just out of reach, never quite tangible.

My frustration boils over, a fiery tempest threatening to consume the remnants of my rational mind. A primal urge to roar, to unleash the full fury of this beastly form, gnaws at me, but I resist. Caution is paramount; drawing attention in this game could be fatal.

Each dead end feels like a personal affront, a reminder of myinability to find her. I’m supposed to be a hunter, yet this elusive prey constantly slips through my fingers. Her scent is both a beacon and a torment, a constant reminder of my mission and my repeated failures to locate her.

Taking a moment to catch my breath, I struggle to reconcile the animalistic instincts with the remnants of my Zelthori consciousness. I must find her — not for the Malquarans or their vile game, but for her sake, foroursake.

With renewed resolve, I push forward. The maze’s vastness and complexity are daunting, but I refuse to be defeated. Her scent, that elusive yet ever-present trail, is my only guide in this alien world, my lifeline in a sea of uncertainty.

As I maneuver through the hazardous labyrinth, a stark realization dawns on me — my very existence hinges on finding her. This isn’t merely about survival; it’s a battle of wits against the Malquarans, a fight to protect something infinitely more precious than mere survival.

Reinvigorated, I surge through the maze, agilely navigating the traps and dangers. I’m more than just a creature roaming these twisted paths; I’m a Zelthori on a mission, a Zelthori who refuses to succumb to the role of a mere pawn in someone else’s twisted game.

I am determined to find her first. No matter the cost, no matter the challenges, I will prevail.

My life, my very essence, demands it.

Zoey

As I pace back and forth, anxiety and uncertainty churn within me. The imposing maze stretches out in front of me, its pathways forming a bewildering tangle of choices, each potentially fraught with unseen peril.

The safer option seems to be staying put, yet the very thought of remaining stationary, a sitting duck in this alien labyrinth, sends waves of unease coursing through me.

Drawn unwittingly closer to the vibrant pink hedgerow, my mind is so entangled in a web of anxious thoughts that I initially fail to notice the peculiar phenomenon unfolding before me.

It’s only when I take a moment to really look that I see it — the hedge is glowing, radiating a soft, ethereal light, and, incredibly, my skin seems to be mirroring its luminescence.

Halting in my tracks, I’m engulfed by a wave of disbelief. The hedge’s glow intensifies as I draw nearer, pulsating in a rhythm that eerily echoes the beat of my heart. It’s as if the hedge is not just a plant, but something alive, sentient, reacting to my very presence.

Hesitantly, I extend a hand towards it, half expecting someform of recoil. Instead, the hedge feels warm, almost inviting, its branches swaying gently towards me in a serene dance.

“This can’t be real,” I mutter to myself, bewildered. “Am I losing my mind here, or is this some kind of alien illusion?”

Yet, despite my skepticism, I can’t deny the feeling of connection, of an inexplicable harmony with this strange, alien entity.

Captivated, I stand motionless, my gaze locked on the glowing hedge. Then, almost imperceptibly at first, I feel something within me — a soft, magnetic pull in my chest, guiding me towards something, or someone, unknown.

It’s a bizarre mix of alien and familiar, like a forgotten dream surfacing in the waking world.

My trance is broken by a sudden movement at the end of the maze corridor. It takes me a moment to recognize it.

A man!

My heart leaps with a cocktail of relief and joy — I’m not the only human trapped in this bizarre place! The realization that I’m not alone in this alien nightmare ignites a flicker of hope within me.

As my attention shifts to the man, the mysterious glow from my skin gradually fades, and the hedge returns to its normal state.

Was it all in my head?I wonder, a flicker of doubt crossing my mind. But the bizarre nature of this place has already stretched the limits of what I consider possible.

No longer alone, a renewed sense of purpose energizes me. I frantically wave my arms and call out to him, desperate to bridge the distance between us. “Hey! Hey you!”

He seems lost in his own thoughts, but my voice eventually reaches him, drawing his attention.

A wave of relief crashes over me as he turns and starts moving towards me.
