“Oh?” he asked.

She tipped her head up to look at him. Her lips were swollen from their kisses, her eyes bright with passion and her skin flushed. She shivered and smiled.

“Yeah. You…well, I want to say you rocked my world, but that’s totally clichéd. You sent me into orbit, made me see heaven, and ruined me for other men.” She lifted her brows and grinned. “There, that’s all the clichés I know. But they’re so true.” She leaned up but didn’t kiss him. “Mercer…”

“Yeah, sweetheart?” He brushed her hair behind her ear, falling hard for his pretty human soulmate.

“I’m falling in love with you.” She whispered the words like they were a secret.

He could say it with all honesty too. “I’m right there with you, Rhomi, falling hard.”

She kissed him then, rubbing against him and making his body spring to life.

He groaned and she chuckled.

“This time,” she said, lifting her leg and swinging it over his, “I want to see how many times I can get you to say my name.”

“Whatever my sweetheart wants,” he promised. “The moon, the stars, and everything in between.”

“Just you,” she said.

Perfect. Because he wanted her too.

Just her.

“Whoa, that’s quite the hickey you’ve got there,” Jeanie said as Rhomi unlocked the season pass office on Tuesday morning.

She touched the place on her neck that still felt like it was throbbing from Mercer sucking on it. “I wore the polo hoping it would cover it.”

“Nope,” she quipped with a chuckle. “Don’t worry, it happens.”

Rhomi shook her head and opened the door. “It felt good while he was doing it; now it’s just this reminder that he’s got a wicked mouth.” She’d chided Mercer for the hickey before he dropped her off on his way to patrol, but he’d only wiggled his brows at her before he strode away. He clearly liked that she was wearing a mark he’d given her. Well, she’d just have to give him one.

“They’re the best kind.”

Rhomi set her bag on the desk and said, “What can I do for you?”

“There’s a school coming today; they’re going to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the aviary as well as the petting zoo that isn’t open yet. I’d like you to meet them at the front gates and take them to the aviary, where Auden and Jess will meet them.”

“I’d love to. When are they coming?”

“Ten.” She handed her an envelope. “Each kid gets a lanyard with a visitor badge, and so do the teachers. You can hand them out after you get them to the aviary.”

“This is really neat.”

“Since yours is kind of a boring job, even if it is necessary, Joss is looking for ways to expand it so that you can be busier.”

“I’d love that. The phone keeps me busy for the most part, though.”

“Good. I’m off to the cafeteria.”

“See you.”

Rhomi sat and put the envelope on the counter. She sent a text to Mercer to tell him all about it.

That’s very cool! We’ll celebrate the changes to your job at lunch.
