Lifting his head, he kissed her again, his arms wrapped around her as he surged upwards desperately. His body went still seconds before he erupted inside her; he held her against his chest as he fought for control.

She listened to the thudding of his heart, closed her eyes, and felt the tears at the back of her eyes. She was going to fight for them, she vowed silently. There was no way she was going to let him push her away.

"Cold?" He asked when she shivered slightly.

"A little." She admitted.

"We should go on in."

"Hmm."

Rising, he lifted her and walked inside, sliding the glass doors behind them. "I love your place." She whispered, looking at the spacious living room with its grand piano tucked into one corner. "Do you play?"

"A little." He said briefly as he bounded effortlessly up the stairs and headed for a pair of glossy brown doors. They passed through a teal blue sitting room with tan sofas before stepping into a room large enough to make three of her bedrooms. The bed was on a dais with steps leading towards it.

"Goodness." She whispered. "One could get lost in it. Custom made?"

"Yes." Climbing the steps, he laid her back against the pillows and followed her down so that he was on top of her.

"What now?"

"I want you again." He whispered against her lips.

"What a coinkidink - I want you again too."

Laughing, he bent his head to kiss her softly. "I am going to need a minute."

"Take your time." Her hands brushed against his temple before tangling into the ink-black hair. She wanted to say so much to him, but she did not want to spoil the mood. And besides, he was already moving inside her.

His lips were soft, the kiss undemanding and almost tender, sending shivers along her spine. His muscles flexed when she brushed her fingers from his shoulders to his back. His thrusts were slow; his movements measured as he continued to kiss her until she was clinging to him.

Chapter 15

He was taking a breather. It was confounding to him that he wanted to touch her constantly. He had not told her she could spend the night because it was implied. She had brought an overnight case with her, and he did not think of it as her passing her place.

He wanted to spend the night with her. Aside from that, he did not dare think about it. She had told him she wanted a baby, and since they were not using anything, it was possible that a baby could be part of the mix.

"You are thinking too loudly." Her sultry voice had him looking at her. She was curled up against him, hair tangled by his restless fingers.

"If there is a child-" He paused and considered how to put it. "You will alert me as soon as possible."

Her tapered eyebrows lifted as she tilted her head to stare at him.

"You can be certain of that."

"I am surprised you are not using anything."

"I have not been sexually active in more than a year."

He simply stared at her, a frown touching his brow. "Why?"

She shrugged. "The last couple of relationships ended badly—Guys who resented me for working too much and putting in too many hours. I tend to do just that. I would get caught up in a manuscript and forget the time.

I would be on a date, and something occurred to me, and I would scribble it down on a napkin or my phone. Or I would call an author, some changes that pop inside my head."

She lifted her head, one arm propped on his chest. "One time I was in bed with this guy, and I got tagged - an author who wanted to make changes, drastic ones, and I ended the - the sex and dealt with it."

"That would piss anybody off. You did not think of muting your phone?"
