"And-"

"She could not stop me from coming. I know it's a girls' thing, but I wanted to see my sister." David came forward to sit on the side of her chair. "How are you?"

"Just like the last time you asked me, early this morning." She snuggled against him. "Are you friends with my man now?"

He grimaced at the reminder that she had insisted they get together for a drink to patch things up. "You are going to be the two main men in my life, and I would like you to play nice. Bear in mind that I am pregnant and think of the stress." That had done it.

"I would not exactly call us friends, but he loves you, and that counts for something."

"You will be giving me away."

"I intend to keep a check on you." He tilted her chin up. "You are my sister, and I am very protective."

"Now that you have said your piece, now go away." Angeline shooed him away. "We have women's things to talk about."

Kissing his sister again, he nodded to the rest of the ladies before walking out and leaving them to their planning.

As soon as he left, the excitement started all over again.

Taking a deep breath, Delores stared in the mirror. It was her wedding day, and it dawned bright and beautiful. It was almost nine P.M., and it was already bright and sunny, with just several puffy white clouds dotting the serene blue of the sky.

Last night, she, her friends, and her sister-in-law had spent the night drinking non-alcoholic wine and eating finger foods (mainly tea and soup for her)! The pregnancy was a roller coaster ride of sickness at odd times during the day.

It definitely could not be called morning sickness at all! Last night had been her in her bed. She was still undecided about whether or not she would sell the house, but that was for later.

The dress was deceptively simple, a shapeless champagne lace sheath, until she donned it, and then it fitted and molded to her slender curves like a glove. The hammered gold necklace and gold and sapphire earrings were gifts from Deacon. He had called her last night after she had settled in for the night.

“Just checking in.”

“How about the bachelor party?” Her brother had been part of that, just guys chilling out at his apartment and drinking wine and eating something he had ordered from a restaurant he had shared in. “I hope the strippers did not sit on your lap.”

“No strippers.” He had paused. “Are you certain about this?”

“Are you?” She had asked him softly.

“I am not easy to live with.”

“Do you love me, Deacon?”

“More than my life.”

“Then that is enough for me.”

“I don’t want you to regret that you made this decision. I could not bear it if you express the wish to leave.”

“I love you, darling, and I am carrying your baby. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is more important than that.”

She turned as her friends came into the room.

“I thought about pinning my hair up; Barry suggested that, but Deacon likes it loose.”

“Honey, you are glowing,” Angeline exclaimed as she entered the room. She wore plum; the simple dress had a crisscross strap that left her shoulders and back bare. Sara had on pearl pink, and Lori-Ann was wearing a combination of yellow and green, her hair in an intricate style at the nape of her neck.

“You look stunning,” Sara exclaimed as she approached to take her hands. “And having the wedding in the park across from Deacon’s apartment was an excellent idea. It’s fairly private even though you know reporters will be buzzing around.”

“I don’t care.” Squeezing her friend’s hands, she turned to look in the mirror. “I am marrying the man I love with all my being, and nothing else matters.” Taking a deep breath, she turned away with a smile. “I am ready.”
