God, he was gorgeous.

“Don’t do this, baby,” he said softly. “I don’t care how you’re dressed. I don’t care that you were trying to sabotage our date.” He put his hands on my hips. “I just care that you’re here with me.”

I could feel emotions stinging the back of my eyes. “I’m sorry,” I said, knowing that he deserved it.

“Enough to finish dinner and maybe have dessert?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

The next hour was the worst of my life, and that included dating Cap Aldrich.

Chapter 17

Orion~

The last hour had been a rough motherfucker. Nevertheless, I was still walking Sinclair to her door, so I had to take what I could get.

When I had called her out on her outfit, it hadn’t been to push her into a corner. I honestly hadn’t been bothered by what she’d been trying to do. She’d been honest from the beginning about not wanting to date athletes, so it wasn’t like I hadn’t been aware of her apprehension. Used to women trying too hard, I had actually appreciated how she’d been trying to stick to her convictions by dressing down. However, it hadn’t occurred to me that she’d feel bad about her behavior when I had called her out on it. I had really believed that I’d get a snarky response and it’d be laughed off.

I hadn’t meant to hurt her feelings.

Nothing was said as Sinclair unlocked the door to her apartment, and since I couldn’t remember the last time that I’d had a girlfriend, I didn’t really know what to do or say to make things right between us. She was still feeling bad, and I was feeling anxious, and it was clear that neither of us were good at this sort of thing.

Turning, she looked up at me, giving me a strained smile. “Well, thank you for tonight,” she lied. “It was nice of you to rent out the restaurant.”

“C’mon, Sinclair,” I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Are you really going to send me on my way with a polite acknowledgement like that?”

“I just feel bad,” she admitted, and every time that she was candidly open, I found myself drowning in her more. “You asked me out in good faith, and I acted like a bitch by-”

“Hey, knock it off,” I scolded. “If I really believed that, then I would have ended the date before you’d had a chance to.”

“It wasn’t cool,” she insisted.

“Then make it up to me with a second date,” I suggested.

That got a soft smile out of her. “You must be a glutton for punishment.”

“I’m just not ready to let you give up on us,” I told her.

Before I knew what she was doing, I felt her hands on my chest, sliding upwards, and that wasn’t going to happen. I wanted this woman more than I wanted to take my next breath, but not like this. The hell I’d let her give me a pity kiss, fuck, or whatever. When the time came for her to whither beneath me, it was going to be because she was out of her mind with desire, not feeling guilty.

I grabbed her wrists, stopping her. “What are you doing?”

Her blue eyes widened a bit. “Uhm…I…I was going to kiss you.”

I shook my head. “The plan was to walk you to your door, get a second date, then leave,” I informed her. “That’s it.”

“You weren’t going to kiss me goodnight?”

“Sinclair, I need to be very clear about something.” She nodded for me to go on. “I can handle my attraction to you. I can behave like a gentleman as long as I need to. I can and am willing to wait for as long as I have to for you.” I let go of one of her wrists, then cradled the right side of her face. “However, I can’t handleyourattraction tome. If you kiss me, I won’t be able to leave it at a kiss.” I let out a frustrating sigh. “You’re insane if you think that I have the power to resist you. So, you’re going to keep your lips and hands to yourself, agree to another date, then I’m going to leave.”

I let go of Sinclair’s other hand, and she dropped them to her sides, stepping back a bit. The space gave me time to collect my senses, regain some balance. I had enough control over my dick that I could do with a cold shower at home. However, if this woman touched me again, I’d lose it.

“What if I don’t want you to stop?” she asked after a few tense seconds.

“Don’t do this to me, Sinclair,” I practically begged. “I want this too badly. I want this to work more than you can imagine.”

“What if I don’t want you to stop?” she repeated.
