“I’m hoping this stays with me for a while, too,” he said when they had to stop kissing and just breathe.
Bree shook her head. “This?”
“You. Me. Being together. You don’t need me to rescue you, but…” He stopped, and she saw that he was about to make this less serious. “I have my uses,” he settled for saying.
“What if I want you to rescue me?” she asked, turning the tables on him. Light but moving back to serious.
He smiled. Yeah, another weapon in his hot guy arsenal. He also kissed her and slid his hand down her breasts and to her center. Where those magic fingers began to do their thing.
Bree wanted their “thing.” Or rather she wanted another round of sex with Rafe, but there was something she needed him to hear.
“Rescue me,” she whispered. “By giving me something I thought I’d never have.”
“What?” he asked. He continued with those maddening strokes, hitting just the right spot.
“You,” Bree managed. “A chance at being with you.”
He stopped, stared at her, and she was surprised that she had surprised him. But she had. She could see it in his eyes.
“You’ve got more than a chance of being with me. If that’s what you want,” he added with caution.
“It is,” Bree assured him. “Because I’m thinking I care about you a lot more than I ever thought possible.”
He smiled again. Definitely a weapon. But then it faded, and his eyes grew serious. “It came to me like a flash,” he said. “We were running out of the compound. I reached for you, and you took my hand. That’s when I knew.”
“Knew what?” she murmured.
“That I love you, Bree.” He kissed her then. A kiss that was as good as sex. Because this one sealed their future.
“For me, it happened when we hit the ground,” she admitted. “When you pulled me into your arms. That’s when I knew my life would never be the same. Because I knew then that I was in love with you.”
Rafe’s smile returned. “Say it again.”
She did. “I love you,” she managed but couldn’t add more. No breath left for words.
With that smiling mouth kissing hers and his fingers at work again, Rafe sent her soaring with a climax.
