“Tara, can we talk?”

“Isn’t that what we’ve been doing?” she says, putting the needle and thread back in the sewing kit.

“I mean about us. What are we doing here?”

“Spending time together.” She closes the sewing kit and turns to me. “Isn’t that what you wanted? To get to know each other?”

“This is more than us getting to know each other. We kissed, Tara. And if I hadn’t stopped us, we would’ve done more.”

She looks down. “I’m dating Troy.”

“I know, which is why I’m confused. Why are you kissing me when you’re dating Troy?”

“Well, technically,youkissed me.”

“Okay, that’s fair, but you didn’t stop me. And you admitted you wanted me to kiss you. Why would you want that when you’re with someone else?”

She sighs and sits back on the couch. “Troy and I have issues.”

“What kind of issues?”

“We fight a lot. We don’t have much in common. And he never wants to do anything.”

“Then break up with him.”

“It’s not that simple.”

“It is. If you don’t want to date him, just end it.”

“Jake, I’ve dated him for three months.”

“Yeah, and I dated Haley for almost three years. She didn’t have a problem ending it with me. Three months is nothing, especially when it sounds like you two don’t see each other much.”

“I don’t want to talk about this.” She gets up and goes over to the window. “It’s raining, and it’s getting late. You should get back to campus.”

I walk over to her. “It’s not late. And I don’t want to leave. So unless you’re telling me I have to go, I’m staying.”

She turns to me, putting her hands on my chest and looking up at me. “I really like you, Jake. I wish things could be different, but they can’t.”

“Why? This doesn’t make sense. Just break up with him.”

“Jake, please. Let it go. I don’t want to talk about it.”

I wrap my hands around her face and look into her eyes. “If you were mine, I would make you feel like you’re the only girl in the world. I would treat you better than you’ve ever been treated.”

She gives me a sad smile. “You already have.”

“Then be with me.” I lean down to her. “I promise you, I’ll—”

She presses her lips to mine, silencing me, then whispers, “Please, Jake. Please stop talking about this.” She looks into my eyes. “Just stop talking.”

JAKE

I knowI shouldn’t kiss her, but I can’t stop myself when she’s this close and the feel of her lips is still fresh on my mind. She backs up against the window and grabs the front of my shirt, pulling me closer. The kiss we shared earlier was soft and slow, but now it’s hard and fast, our tongues tangling as our hands fumble trying to get clothes out of the way.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. I don’t want her thinking this is the reason I’m here. I should stop us, but I don’t think I can. Tara’s yanking my belt loose, undoing my jeans. She wraps her hand around my cock and I’m gone. There’s no way I’m telling her to stop, not when it feels this good.
