“I should have kept my mouth shut.”
I hadn’t meant to say those words out loud, just think them. But here they were, out in the open.
He shook his head. “No. I just want to know why.”
“Why what?” I asked.
“Why me? Why now?”
“At one time, I thought I was waiting until marriage,” I said. “I thought I’d stay single until my thirties. But then I met you and I realized something.”
He didn’t speak. He was waiting patiently for me to get all of this out.
“I realized I don’t want to walk away from you or Blackbear Bluff,” I said. “I want to be with you here in this town for the rest of my life.”
Being in that room today had cemented that for me. As I looked around at people I’d known all my life, along with the new faces, I realized this was my home. This town with all its kooky characters was where I belonged.
And the man standing in front of me was my family. He was the one I wanted to go through the rest of this life with.
“I know it sounds crazy,” I said. “We didn’t even know each other twelve hours ago. But when I saw you, something just shifted in me.”
A smile slowly spread over his face, and my body instantly relaxed. He was taking this well. He could have been one of those guys who wanted a woman until he got her, then lost all interest. He had me, one hundred percent.
“I felt exactly the same,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s possible to fall in love with someone in a day, but that sure is what this feels like.”
“It’s exactly what it feels like,” I said. “And it doesn’t matter if we wait until marriage or have sex today. You’re going to be the one I give my virginity to.”
“I’ll marry you right here and now, if I have to,” he said. “I don’t even want to spend another night apart.”
“Then why wait?” I gestured toward the panel behind him. “Push the button and let’s go back to my room.”
He glanced over his shoulder, then turned back around with a frown. “Did you pack Emerald’s stuff?”
“Yep. That’s what kept me upstairs so long. I left it on the front porch. I didn’t know all this drama was going on until I came back inside and went to the living room to find you.”
He took a step toward me, and my body came to life. There was no doubting what he planned to do. It was written all over his face.
“To finish what we started?” he asked.
I nodded. I tried to speak, but my vocal cords seemed to be frozen.
“Unzip your dress and pull it down for me,” he said.
There was a husky quality to his voice. It gave away how turned on he was.
I did exactly as he commanded, straining to reach the zipper. I finally got it just as he was stepping forward to help. My gaze met his as I pulled the bodice down, revealing my strapless bra.
