“Hello? Conrad? Are you still there?”

I glance down at Ivy peering up at me through her sleep haze. “I’m still here.”

“I understand this has been a tough time for you and your family,” she says kindly. “But the initial test results have come back positive, he’s going to be okay. You and your brothers are welcome to come in and see him before visiting hours if you like.”

“Thanks,” I mutter, before hanging up and staring down at my phone.

Ivy snakes her arms around my waist and presses her lips to my naked back. “Is everything okay?”

“That was the hospital,” I tell her, twisting around toface her. “Sam’s awake.”

“That’s good news.”

“It is.” I let out a weighted sigh. “She said she couldn’t get hold of Tom or Harley. I should let them know.”

I pull up Tom’s number first. When his voicemail kicks in, I clear my throat before speaking. “Hey, man, it’s Conrad. Call me back as soon as you get this. Sam’s awake.”

Ivy climbs out of bed and leans down to kiss me. “I’m going to go make us some coffee,” she says as I pull up Harley’s number.

Harley’s phone doesn’t even ring, going straight to voicemail. I leave him the same voicemail I left Tom and head out to the kitchen.

“Do you have Lily’s number, Princess?” I band one hand around Ivy’s waist as I accept the coffee she hands me with the other. “Tom and Harley aren’t answering.”

She frowns and wraps her arms around my neck, burying her fingers in my hair. “It’s in my phone. I’ll go get it. Maybe try the guys again. Harley’s probably training, or out for a surf. It’s early. But hey, this is good news about your… about Sam.”

I lean my forehead against hers. “Yeah, it is. I’m glad he’s alright.”

“But?”

I grin. I’m still amazed at how well this girl knows me. “But I don’t know what all this means for me.”

“You saved his life, Conrad. Twice.”

I grimace. “That’s overkill.”

“No, it’s not. You saved your father, Conrad, and you deserve to be acknowledged for that.” She presses her lips to mine. “If you want to go see him, I’ll come with you. And if you don’t, well, that’s entirely your choice. But your feelings right now are valid. Don’t try and brush them aside because Sam chose to be a bad father. This is a second chance… for both of you.”

I place my coffee on the bench and tuck a strand of blonde hair behind her ears and gaze into her sea-green eyes. “How did I get so lucky?”

She smirks. “You showed up at Glassons Point and let a beautiful blonde woman have her way with you.”

“Is that so?” I laugh and squeeze her ass.

“It is so,” she replies, booping me on the nose with her finger. “Try Tom and Harley again. I’ll go grab my phone and call Lily. Then you can grab a shower, and we’ll go to the hospital together. I think it will do you good to see Sam.”

She tries to pull out of my grip, but I tug her in for one last kiss before letting her go. I watch her sashay back to the bedroom, shaking my head with a grin. Once she disappears, I pick up my phone and dial Tom again. I tap my fingers on the benchtop as it rings. I curse when his voicemail kicks in again.

“Come on, man. I know it’s early, but I need to speak to you. Call me back.”

Harley’s phone is still turned off. I don’t know why, but something feels off.

Ivy appears in the doorway, a frown marring her face. “Lily’s not answering either. Do you think something’s wrong?”

I push my hair back off my face. “I’m not sure. Let’s get ready, and we’ll swing past their place on the way to the hospital.”

I HOVER OUTSIDE Sam’s hospital room. He’s sitting up, talking to the doctor. Ivy is down the hall in the waiting room, still trying to get a hold of Tom, Harley, or Lily. No one answered the door when we stopped past their house. Tom’s ute was there, but Harley’s bike was gone.

“You’re welcome to go in and see him, hon,” a nurse says, placing her hand on my shoulder. “The doctor’s just finishing up.”
