I try to laugh, but a sharp pain lances through my ribs, and I wince. “Guess I got my ass handed to me last night, huh?”

Tom frowns. “You don’t remember?”

I shake my head, wincing again.Fuck.I really must have copped it. I hope I at least gave the other guy a run for his money.

Money.

I curse, running my eyes over my brother’s injuries. “The debts. How bad is it? Is that why I’m in hospital?”

“Well, at least he knows where he is,” Lachy mutters, and Tom shoots him a dirty look.

Lily lets out a sob and buries her head against my sheets.

I scowl at my brother and my best mate. “Will someone please just tell me what’s going on? How much trouble are we in? Are they going to come back and try and finish us off? Seriously, can someone please tell me something?” The more I talk, the more Lily cries until her shoulders are shaking. The beeping on the monitor starts to increase as my heart races. I try to take a couple of deep breaths, but my lungs burn, and I feel like I’m on the verge of a panic attack.

“Calm down,” Tom urges, putting his arm on my shoulder. “We’re safe. No one’s coming for us.”

“Except maybe the cops,” Lachy says, unhelpfully.

My stomach churns, and my head rolls back to stare up at the white ceiling.I’m fulfilling the Breed male prophecy. I’m going to jail.

“Will you shut the fuck up, man?” Tom snaps at him. “You’re not helping.”

“Has anyone heard from Zeke yet?” Lachy asks. “He’s been silent a long time.”

“Zeke?” I ask. What the hell does he have to do with any of this?

Tom sighs. “The debts are paid off, Harley. You did it, you won your fight.”

My eyes slowly move to meet his steady gaze. He’s not lying about that, but he’s still keeping something from me.

“But?” I prompt.

“But, after the fight, Lily’s ex showed up. Apparently, Roman’s been watching us for a little while, and he recognised her.”

“Wait, back up. Who’s Roman? And what do you mean he recognised her?”

“Roman was the guy I owed,” Tom says quietly. He puts his hand on Lily’s back, and I hate the way she flinches. “I think this would be better coming from you.”

My stomach drops. I lift her chin, so she has no choice but to look at me. “Did he do something to you, Kitten? Did he touch you?”

She shakes her head.

“Lily…” Tom urges gently. “You have to tell him.”

She sniffs. “You’re in the hospital because of me. Because Declan found me.”

Something niggles in the back of my mind, but my brain is foggy, and all of these names are confusing me. My frustration starts to build. “Who’s Declan?”

“My ex.”

“Okay, so what did Tom mean when he said Roman recognised you. Why would he recognise you?”

Lily bites down on her bottom lip, her honey brown eyes locking onto mine. “I never lied to you,” she whispers. “I want you to know that. I never lied… I just didn’t tell you everything.”

I squeeze my eyes shut, swallowing down the bile that rises up the back of my throat. “Just tell me,” I choke out.

“My name is Isabelle Lily Adamos. My dad is Yiannis Adamos, head of the Greek underworld in Sydney. The man he was forcing me to marry is Declan Walsh, the Irish gang leader. It was a powerplay for my father. He didn’t have any sons, so he needed me to marry into another powerful family to continue his legacy. Roman was a business associate of Declan’s. He knew who I was the moment he saw me. He told Declan where to find me.”
