“Get outta here, pledge. Coffee machine’s for full members.”

Nash snorted and winked in Wrenlee’s direction. She stiffened, leaning back into me and tipped her head back to stare into my eyes.

By God a man could fall into those baby blues and never emerge.

“What’s going on?” she whispered as Nash ignored me and rifled through the fruit bowl.

“Wrenlee, meet my baby brother. He’s a pledge this year and if I have my way, he won’t be in this frat house a moment longer than I can make it happen.” I smirked at him, lifting Wrenlee as I stared the little asswipe down and slid beneath her

Wrenlee settled on my lap, nuzzling into my neck, though I knew she was just using her hair as a barrier to hide from him. I was good with that. What I wasn’t good with was that my girl was uncomfortable with a kid who could be a brother in more than one way if he didn’t fuck up his probationary period.

“He’ll be here as long as it takes.”

I closed my eyes and swore into Wrenlee’s hair. “Morning, Bennett. Up for a run later?”

Beau Bennet, head of the Kingsman House by default of his father being a mafia kingpin and Lacrosse captain held my stare with his arrogant one when I raised my head. Though my hold on Wrenlee didn’t loosen. We got along fine, one captain to another. Hell, I pledged with the boy in our first year at RipptonU, and learned more about him when we stole the Blackstone flag from their travelling cohort to win my allegiance.

That didn’t make us friends.

“Already been, man.” He smirked at me.

“Where’d you leave Sylvie?” I shut my mouth as soon as the words tumbled out, knowing I didn’t want Wrenlee to hear whatever answer he’d give me.

“Who’s Sylvie?” Wrenlee asked, far too loudly.

I winced.

Beau didn’t. “My little Toy,” he said softly, his tone coated thickly with amusement. “She’s a little tied up right now. If you hear her scream, just ignore her. I left a toy in her on high.”

Wrenlee’s mouth hung open. “You’re not being serious.”

I closed my eyes. “He is.” I gave her a squeeze. “He’s a bit different. I’m not really into what he is. Unless you want me to try,” I added as an afterthought.

“I’m good being ignorant.”

“You mean innocent.” Beau watched her far too long for my liking.

I cleared my throat. “Since you have a girl of your own you can stay the fuck away from mine.”

Beau smirked, filling two thermoses of coffee. He leaned into our space. “I don’t let her starve, in case you’re worried. And you can check in with her yourself.”

“Are you always such a controlling asshole?” Wrenlee breathed, digging her nails into my forearms.

Beau’s soft laughter filled the kitchen. “That’s one hell of a breakfast date, Lancaster. I’d spoil her if I were you. If you can keep her.” With that enigmatic comment he wandered away.

“Really an asshole,” Wrenlee muttered, creating toast confetti on the marble benchtop.

“He can be. Decent leader and he’s protective as hell about Sylvie. She seems to genuinely enjoy what they do. You don’t need to worry about her.” I pressed my lips to her temple.

“If you say so.” Wrenlee didn’t look up at me.

“Hey,” I said gently. “I know it’s a lot to take in on your first day, especially if you’ve never been part of the house before.”

“But she was part of the house.” Nash piped up.

I closed my eyes. “I forgot you were there.”

“Pretty sure you didn’t.” Nash laughed.
