“You mean it?” I gasped, tears cresting the corners of my eyes.

His mouth grazed my ear as he slammed back into me, and the room disappeared on me. The world, too. “You’re my forever, Wrenlee.”

I screamed as I came, tipped over by not his dirty talk or the way he fucked me or the whole arousing situation, but by the promise of a future, a real one...what I wanted so damn bad.

My body tightened. I distantly registered his roar before he slumped over me. His warmth was all I needed to slip away from the room, lost in my head, secure in his arms.

I dozed, knowing people walked around me, the muted voices I couldn’t focus on. My eyes drifted shut as a warm washcloth cleaned me, and a huge blanket engulfed us both. Leon picked me up, peeling the layer back to press his chest to my side so we remained skin to skin, and wrapped us both up, kissing me tenderly.

He plopped down on a large bed–also in black, who would have guessed?–his arms tight, murmuring things into my ear. Sweet things, promises I desperately needed as my body lost its grip on heady euphoria and began to ache, to understand the changes in both my body and my heart.

Sylvie slipped between us, Beau on her other side, petting her gently and cooing at her for all the wonderful ways she pleased him. But her eyes were on me and as she leaned forward, my lips parted and I let her kiss me slowly, our mouths and tongues gliding sweetly together in a shared experience no amount ofmoney could buy. I knew that I’d trust them both implicitly from now on.

Leon, too.

His words whispered over and over in my ear.Thank you. I love you. Be mine forever, kitten.

I closed my eyes, rested my head on his shoulder, and let him hold me until his voice disappeared, and I floated.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

NAPOLEON

I barely saw Wrenlee in the days after our night at Beau’s club. I took her home, showered us both, and we fell into bed. She was gone in the morning for her early class, and a few text messages later it was Friday, and I was looking forward to the game against Cliffside.

Coach’s grim face when I turned up to training fifteen minutes early, ready for a hard run, soured my outlook on the weekend. “Game’s off.”

I blinked at him. “The fuck for?”

“Chickenpox. Shingles. And I don’t mean the sort you painted onto your body with Texta as a six year old. They aren’t coming here, we aren’t playing anyone else. They’re taking the loss, because I refuse to fucking reschedule a match. But I did agree to an exhibition game post season. Just for...fun.”

I smirked. “I didn’t think you had it in you, Coach.”

“Had what?” Those icy eyes narrowed, pinpoint focusing on me.

“The F word. Fun.”

“Fuck off.” He glared at me. “You can get your gear on and sprint.”

My mouth dropped open. “I know it’s leg day, but that’s just mean. I was looking forward to a decent run. So much forfun.”

“No rest for the wicked, Crush. Get your ass out there. Actually, add the padded chest plate. You can do it in weights.”

“No,” I protested, knowing I sounded like a whiny bitch.

“Fifty.”

I opened my mouth and closed it again. There was no point poking the bear. Gearing up, I stretched and set off, joined byReid and Cooper who sprinted alongside me in silence. Our usual banter absent, we worked hard, pushing and matching each other even when our lungs were fit to burst. At forty laps, Coach threw a half dozen pucks into the mix, and we did our best to avoid them, and each other.

Finally, he called fifty and we stopped. Sweat poured inside my kit, and I shook my head as I stopped near him. “That was just fucking nasty.”

“Not half as bad as you smell. We got some strategy to talk about facing Blackstone for round two next week. Forget what we were dealing with over Cliffside. This puts them out of the running for the year. It’s them you’ll play later, with their new team, in the playoffs. New blood. I’ve seen them play, and it’s gonna be tough.”

“Great pep talk,” Reid muttered.

“You wanna go another forty?” Coach yelled.

“No, sir.” He slumped back onto the bench, stretching a leg out. “Can we cool down while you yell at us, though?”
