They put me in a stunning purple dress with rhinestone accents. It’s not something I would usually wear, but it does make my short body look long somehow. I don’t know what category they’ve put me in, but I don’t seem to be in the villainous sexy realm, so I guess that’s a plus.

We’ve all been watching from a waiting area, where you can see the live video footage from a camera pointed at Aaron, but you can’t really hear what’s being said.

I couldn’t help but smile as Natalie glided down the carpet, charming the pants off Aaron. I swear I even saw him genuinely smile.

Most of the time it seems like he wants to be here about as much as I do.

I guess everyone here has ulterior motives, even him. It would be naïve to think otherwise.

Maybe not Natalie, though. She seems to believe in the whole fairytale happily ever after.

I had to console her earlier when one of the ‘villains’ told her she was as fake as her accent and that Aaron would see straight through her façade, which I thought was rich coming from her.

Once again I’m concerned that if this was the behavior off-screen, what will happen when the cameras are rolling. Although it seems like they aren’t filming us back at the hotel so they might not get the screen time they’re so desperate for.

I wish I could protect Natalie in this situation, but I need to keep a low profile. I wish I could warn her about the possibility of Aaron not being genuine, but it might just come off as me trying to play the game of the show.

From the little bits and pieces of gossip, it seems like he’s just been through a very public scandal, and this is likely to rehabilitate his image.

I look out at the ocean, thinking about my mom and how I want to make her proud. This is unconventional, but I think she’d giveme some line about living your life to the fullest and that an unusual route will give you the richest experience.

After my dad left us, it was my mom and me against the world. She was my best friend, other than Danielle.

Over time, Danielle’s family became our family, helping my mom with me while she worked, and when she got sick they did everything they could to help, but no amount of money or prayers could save her.

It’s time I take things into my own hands and make it happen. The universe certainly hasn’t been on my side.

Ouch! Someone kicked me from behind.

“You’re up,” one of the girls whispers.

Oh, no! I should’ve used all the time I had standing around to come up with a game plan.

I start walking down the red carpet.

The closer I get, the more I can see just how handsome Aaron is. His ash blond hair is perfectly styled. His skin is tan, and I notice he has a smattering of stubble on his face. I find myself wanting to touch it. Weird.

His green eyes stare blankly at me as I walk toward him. I can tell his mind is elsewhere.

I try to focus on not tripping. That wouldn’t keep me under the radar; it would turn me into a meme.

I rack my brain with how I should introduce myself, but I’m slightly distracted by just how gorgeous he is.

The sun is strong despite the clouds and I can feel sweat seeping into my dress.

I plaster on a fake smile and try not to nervously pick at my nails.

“Hi, I’m Millie.” I lean forward and kiss him on the cheek.

His minty aftershave engulfs me. I hate to admit it, but he smells good.

Aaron flinches and slightly shakes his head like he’s just realizing someone is standing in front of him.

I notice a hint of something I can’t quite put my finger on as his eyes drag down my body.

I shiver under his gaze.

His phone rings and the crew groan. I let out a sigh of relief. Saved by the phone! Maybe it’ll give me a minute to figure out how to make him dislike me, but not make it obvious.
