He glances over at Macey and smiles. “You don’t need the remix version?” He bops his head and makes a beat. “Oh yeah, oh yeah.”

I almost head-butt him as I laugh. “No, all good. I’ll do what I’ve got to do to get through this.”

I take a deep breath and look at Aaron. I feel sorry for him, I really do. I can’t imagine working so hard to build an empire only to watch it slowly crumble.

When he finally gets back, he sits with his leg against mine and for the next block of filming it’s all I can think about.

“What would your ideal date be?” Aaron asks, leaning forward. It looks like he’s showing interest in me, but he’s covering the view of him texting with his other hand.

They’re making us ask each other random questions, which feels like they’ve just pulled them out of a hat or something.

I decide to answer truthfully. It’s only a silly question, nothing of substance. “At home, in my comfiest clothes, binge-watching a TV show we both love, eating pizza and just hanging out.”

He stops texting and properly looks at me, not just from the corner of his eye. “Really?”

“Yes. Fancy restaurants can be overrated. To get dressed up and go out and have the person pretentiously order the mostexpensive food and wine on the menu and having to pretend you’re enjoying what you’re being served. Brutal.”

“You haven’t been taken to the right restaurants, then.” He smirks.

“Do they have cheesy crust pizza and popcorn with chocolate?”

He looks at me with disgust. “Of course not.”

“No dice.”

“Trust me, there are some places that would make you forget about your cheesy crust pizza.”

“You’ll have to take me sometime.” I lean in and bat my eyelashes. Hoping that this is selling my interest.

Finally, we’re allowed to leave the swing and walk to a restaurant that’s down the beach.

I keep my eyes on the water as we walk, trying to ignore the people with phones filming us, yet again.

It’s funny; they don’t even know what we’re filming but they want proof that they saw it all happen.

“Would you rather…” I splash a bit of water with my foot. “Be stuck in a rainforest or on a desert island?”

Aaron gestures to our surroundings. “Obviously an island. You could just lounge around, have a drink, go for a swim…”

I look him up and down. “Ignoring the fact that I don’t think ‘desert island’ fits the bill here, have you ever relaxed a day in your life?”

“Maybe when I was twelve, for half an hour.” He smiles and this time it reaches his eyes.

I notice he has a nice smile, when he means it.

I shake myself out of it and continue. “Whoa, watch it, ice man!”

He stops walking. “What?”

“Because you’re so chill and relaxed.”

He laughs. “That’s… wow.”

“I love a good dad joke.” I feel like we’re on a roll and giving the producers what they want.

Aaron starts to say something, but his phone rings and he answers it again.

There’s a loud chorus of moans and groans from the crew, understandably so.
