“Wow. So mature,” he mimics.

It’s his turn to drive and I would never admit it, but I like wrapping my arms around him. He takes it slow to begin with, claiming to want to take in the sights, but I have a feeling he’s worried about me flying off.

“I have a good grip,” I tell him. “Floor it!”

I feel his chest move as he laughs.

The engine roars and we take off.

The wind whips my hair and I’m pretty sure I swallow a bug, but I don’t care.

I latch onto Aaron as he goes faster, and I can’t help but be intoxicated by his scent.

I feel myself wanting to run my hands down his body, but I try to push the longing away. This is not what we are.

I don’t know what we are. We’re not exactly friends. We’re not romantic. I guess we’re unlikely companions.

I try to imagine us as friends. I try to imagine us outside of The Bahamas, but I can’t.

We’re from two vastly different worlds.

It’s funny to think that a successful businessman like him is riding around with an unemployed, soon-to-be college girl.

We couldn’t be more different, but something inside me says we could besomething. There’s something about him that I’m drawn to.

Raindrops hit my face and I smile.

Aaron steers us back around and the rain gets heavier as we drive.

I put my head back and let it soak me.

I feel Aaron turn his head slightly and I catch him smiling.

I scream into the rain and enjoy the feeling of the water engulfing me.

We get back to where we started, and I reluctantly untangle myself from him.

We start walking back to the hire place but I slip on a bit of mud and fall backward. I squeeze my eyes shut and brace for impact.

I slam against something, but it’s not the ground.

I slowly open my eyes and Aaron’s face is in front of me, his eyes burning into mine.

My breath quickens as he stays there with his arms wrapped around my body. His breath hitting my lips. His chest against mine.

My body feels like it’s on fire.

“Are you two okay?” Nathan yells, rushing out of the building.

I’ve never wanted to punch someone before, but right now…

Aaron pulls me upright and steadies my waist as I walk to the hire place.

He lets go of me now that we’re close and shakes his hair.

Suddenly I feel cold and empty, and not just because of the rain.

Nathan tells us to take off our wet clothes and that he’ll be back with blankets to keep us warm.
