“Where have you traveled?” I ask. I didn’t think he had time with work.

“Most of the time, I travel for business, but in my early twenties, after I sold my first company, I did a trip around Europe. What about you?”

I cover my mouth and try not to spit out my food as I chew. “Well, this is my first trip out of the country.”

“Really? Wow. So, I’m your first.”

I raise an eyebrow at him. “My first?”

“First trip out of the country. I’m the reason.”

I scrunch my nose. “I don’t know if you’re the reason, but I certainly wouldn’t have met you otherwise.”

“And now you’ve met me, and I’ve made your life infinitely better, so I think it is a momentous trip after all.” He smiles brightly.

“Please. You hated filming and hated me.”

His face drops. “I never hated you. Filming, however…”

The conversation dissipates as we both get lost in thought. It’s comfortable though, it doesn’t feel awkward or forced.

We finish up our meals and walk back toward the market we saw earlier. Aaron suggests that we pick an item for each other; something that we think the other would like.

“So how can I win this?” I skip along beside him.

“You can’t win. It’s not a competition.”

I pout. “But why?”

He stops me by lightly grabbing my arm. “Because not everything is a competition, and this is meant to be fun.”

I narrow my eyes. “You’re going to regret it.”

He sighs. “I’m sure you’re right.”

“Okay, first up.” I point to a brightly colored stall.

Aaron searches around. “This one.” He points to an elephant.

I shake my head.

He walks over and points to a turtle.

“Really? A turtle. Be serious.” I smile.

He stops. “I’ve got it!” He pays and hides the item from me.

“You don’t have it.” I cross my arms.

He smiles and holds up a dolphin bracelet.

I frown. He does have it.

“I knew it! I win!” He punches the air.

I lightly slap his arm. “You said it wasn’t a competition.”

“Yeah, to psych you out!”
