I wrap my arms around him and try not to think about how hard his abs are under my hands.

He goes slower this time, taking in the view.

“How’d you know I liked dolphins?” I ask, thinking back to our shopping trip and the bracelet he picked out.

“On the jet ski earlier, when you thought you’d spotted one and got all excited. If we’re here for a few more days, I’ll try to get us booked on a boat trip to go spot them in the wild; I checked earlier and they were fully booked today.”

I can’t think when he would’ve had a chance to look into that.

“How?”

He looks back over at the shop.

I shake my head. “Nathan. Of course. You know you have a lot of people here that look out for you.”

He smiles.

Until today I hadn’t seen his smile properly, but every time I do, it takes my breath away. It’s a shame he doesn’t smile more.

“Be honest,” I say as we continue to watch the dolphins. “How many times today did you think about work?”

He sighs. “Honestly? Once.”

“Wow, that’s impressive. I thought about your work at least twice.”

He chuckles and it feels like honey on my skin.

The air starts to cool, and I shiver.

Aaron notices and heads back to shore.

He jumps off first and then grabs my hips.

I gasp at the unexpected contact as he lifts me up and places me down in front of him.

I look into his sparkling green eyes, and I can’t look away. Everything else disappears for a moment.

“Uh, thanks,” I say, a little breathlessly. “I could’ve gotten myself off, you know.”

He laughs. “I’m sure you could’ve.”

I suddenly realize how dirty that sounded and quickly walk toward the hire shop.

Aaron grabs my arm and I pause. “I just want to thank you for today.”

My heart races as I look up at him. “For what? Kicking your butt?”

He laughs. “I think we established that neither of us won, given the circumstances.”

“Mmm…”

I’m ready to keep the banter going but he steps forward and looks deep into my eyes.

“Thank you for taking my mind off everything. I don’t think that’s happened, ever. And thank you for bringing life back to my house here. I always intended to use it as a getaway, and then work took over my life.”

“Well, you’re welcome,” I tell him. “You know, you’re not bad company when you take the stick out of your…”

He grins. “Okay, wow. Thanks. High compliment.”
