"Oh. That? Donatello and I are over. Finito!" She slips off her jacket, frustration clear on her face. "The bastard is moving to Texas. Can you believe he expected me to go with him? I dropped his ass like a bad case of chlamydia, which it turns out is a real bitch to get rid of."

I never met Donatello. All I know about him is what Gillian has told me. The same stuff she told our mom. It's surprising that my sister broke up with him. She seemed so smitten with him the last time I talked to her.

"Hi," Gillian says, her eyes glued to Xander.

"Um, this is Xander," I introduce him, feeling awkward about it.

I never thought I'd do an introduction between these two, but here we are. This is so awkward or maybe I'm making it awkward?

They seem rather relaxed, so it has to be me.

Okay, so maybe I'm a little worried about Xander meeting Gillian. I love my sister, but she's stronger, a party girl, and very extra. She's everything Xander might need in a woman that I am not. Plus, she looks just like me with an edge. I know Xander is attracted to me, he could be attracted to her, too.

I know he was hooking up with Roxy, so Gillian is definitely his type. Xander has been the silver lining in this nasty situation, and I'm scared he'll choose her over me.

So what if my self-esteem is a dumpster fire?

"I need a drink, a smoke, and to get out of these damn shoes. My arches are killing me." Gillian gives a fake whine and I can't help but laugh. My sister may be the baddest bitch from East San Jose, but she can still be as adorable as a puppy.

"A drink sounds fantastic," Xander mutters as he walks off toward the kitchen, leaving me alone with my sister.

"Very interesting set up you have here," Gillian says as her eyes survey the room, taking in the TV, the sofa, and the makeshift coffee table.

I can't claim any of this. It all looked like this before I got here. It would still be like this if I left.

"Let's sit down," I offer, motioning to the pillow arrangement Davina made before she left.

"Comfy cozy, little sister."

I roll my eyes and take a seat next to her.

"You and Donatello broke up so what's your current situation look like?" I ask, genuinely curious.

She pulls a joint out of her pocket and a lighter. "Can I smoke this in here?" she presses as Xander walks back in with an armful of drinks.

"As long as you share."

"Bitch, I'm always down for a puff and pass."

I gape at my sister. I'm pretty sure no one had ever called Xanderthatbefore.

Instead of getting offended, Xander chuckles, eyeing me with amusement.

Worry burns through me, but I hide it the best I can.

"Oh, right!" Gillian exclaims as she blows out a puff of smoke and passes the joint straight past me to Xander with a barely stifled laugh across her face. "The game of puff and pass is usually done in a circle, but I know how you turn your nose up at it, little sister."

Xander practically chokes on the smoke from her words, his face turning a dangerous shade of red at the strain.

"What? I do not turn my nose up!"

"Um, yeah, you do. Any form of drugs except your precious little, white pills get that reaction from you." She scrunches up her face like she drank straight wasabi.

"No, the only time I did that was when you brought it out in front of Mom and wouldn't put it away no matter how many times she told you to. I knew it would turn into a fight."

I never had issues with marijuana. It was Mom who despised it.

"You have your pills. I have my weed. We have our own ways of dealing with our trauma. Our mother, the stuffy little bitch, can suck a dick if she has a problem with it. I'm sure she'd have plenty to say about your current circumstances though. I remember not long ago I got a call from her, raving about how proud she was that you got some internship in France." A smile rises across her lips as she takes the joint from Xander and takes a long drag on it. "Imagine my surprise when you called me with a California number instead of using up my international calling minutes. You've got a lot of explaining to do, little sister."
