“Eva would do,” I deadpan.

“Fair enough.” She holds her hand out to me, and I regard it warily. I take it and shake, knowing if I show fear, it will boost her ego. “Congrats, Eva.” She winks and then walks away to sit back down with Anita and Kerry, the two girls who attacked me on my first night here.

Being stabbed was horrible, but in a way, I think they bought Oak and me together faster. The tension between us started from that night and only elevated from there.

“What was that all about?” Adrianna asks as we take our seats at our usual table.

“No idea,” I say.

“You’ve probably won the admiration or envy of every girl in the school,” Natalya says, glancing around at the looks we’re getting. “Practically every girl had a crush on the brooding, grumpy Principal Byrne, and you’ve put a ring on it.”

Adrianna laughs. “I still can’t quite believe it. I mean, it’s crazy, right?”

“Yeah,” I say, grinning. “Oak’s expecting a bit of fallout from parents when the words get out, though.”

Camilla waves her hand. “Most of the parents won’t give a shit about the principal marrying a pupil. After all, he’s off the market. My dad wouldn’t even bat an eyelid hearing the news.”

“Mine either,” Adrianna agrees. “It’s not like this is a normal school.”

I relax at their reassurance, but Oak is sure some parents will kick up a storm. We’ll have to deal with it when it happens. For now, I’m going to enjoy being newlywed and ignore the haters.

I adjustmy backpack as I walk down the path toward the cottage. A sense of someone watching me makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

“Eva,” Elias calls.

My stomach dips as I turn to face him. “Elias, what do you want?”

He smirks and crosses his arms over his chest, leaning against a nearby wall. “Why don’t you come and sit?” He signals to the wall.

I shake my head. “I’m alright here, thanks.”

His eyes narrow. “Just because you’re now the principal’s little pet, don’t get any ideas about Natalya and me.” He stalks toward me. “You may think it gives you power, but with Natalya, you stay the fuck out of it.”

I glare at him. “Why don’t you stop messing with Nat and admit that you have feelings for her already?”

His jaw clenches, and he stops moving toward me. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I tilt my head. “I think you know what I mean. Why else would you be so obsessed with her?”

“Obsessed?” he asks, his brow furrowing. “I’m not…” He trails off as if only now realizing that he’s obsessed with my friend.

“Did the penny just drop?” I ask, teasing.

Elias glares at me, fists clenching as he moves forward. “Just stay out of my way, understand?”

“I understood you the first time, Elias. And have I gotten in your way since?”

Elias smirks and leans back. “No, but I’m saying don’t getOakleyinvolved.”

“I had no intention of doing so.” I glare at him. “Now, if you don’t mind. I’m going home.”

The crunch of gravel as someone approaches draws our attention as Oak marches toward us.His eyes are on Elias, and his fists are clenched. “Elias, what the fuck are you doing here?” he growls.

I set my hand on Oak’s chest. “It’s okay. We were talking.”

Elias’ grin is so cocky it makes me want to punch him. “Yeah, are you getting so jealous Eva can’t even talk to guys anymore?”
