“I took care of sending that information when I sent the Medical POA.”

A sigh of sadness escaped. “Poor Lillian. She’s so alone.”

Dee reached over and squeezed my hand. “No, she’s not. She’s got you.”

“And you,” I said.

My sister nodded. “And the sexy detective across the street.”

I groaned. “Let’s not talk about Zack.”

“Oh, you’re not getting off that easy,” she drawled, her eyes glinting with humor.

Before I could protest again, Baxter gave a bark and growl, his gaze fixed on the gate. Both of us turned to see what the dog was alerting us about. The gate opened, and our sister, Brooke, walked into the yard.

“I need wine,” she called. “Bottles and bottles of wine.”

I pushed out of my chair and hurried over to hug my sister. “I’ll get another bottle. It’s good to see you. I haven’t seen you in forever.”

Brooke hugged me back. “The hospital is trying to kill me, I swear.”

“Take my chair. I’ll grab another.”

I retrieved another bottle of merlot and a wine glass from my kitchen. When I returned, I set the bottle on the table and pulled a third lounger near the first two, which were both filled by my favorite people in the world.

“I couldn’t wait,” Brooke said, holding up my empty glass. “Sorry. You want your glass back?”

“Keep it. I have another.”

“Am I interrupting something?” Brooke asked with a frown. “You both look so serious.”

“Nope,” Dee said. “I was just pressing our much, much older sister for deets on the sexy cop across the street.”

Brooke’s face lit up with a smile. “Really?” She filled the wine glass to the rim and said, “Do I know him? Is he cute? Tell me everything.”

Brooke’s excited—and loud—voice got Baxter riled up. He began to bark and howl at the foot of her chair.

“See?” I said, arching an eyebrow. “Even Baxter knows it none of your business…either of yours. And I’m not that much older.”

“Oh, come on. I haven’t been on a date in forever,” Brooke complained. “Let me live vicariously through you.”

“By your own choice,” I observed.

Brooke downed her wine. “Honestly, I haven’t found an interesting man I want to date.”

“Interesting woman, perhaps?” Dee asked.

“Nope. I’m all for dicks.”

Dee and I snorted wine out of our noses.

“Well, I’m glad we cleared that up,” I said, still laughing.

“I don’t know how we got on the subject of my appreciation of penis power, but I want to hear about the cop. Let’s start with the name,” Brooke said.

“Zack Noles,” Dee supplied.

“Dee! You have a big mouth,” I said, glaring at her.
