"Thanks!" I expressed my gratitude, taking hold of my backpack from Mom's outstretched hand. With a deep breath, I exited the door.

"Are you absolutely certain you don't want me to drop you off at school?" Mom repeated once more.

"Once again, no, Mom," I reiterated.

"Are you positive you won't be late if you take the bus?"

"That's precisely why I'm leaving an hour early."

"What if you start sweating? You won't look presentable when you get to class," Mom said, her sudden change in demeanor leaving me perplexed. I could handle her newfound niceness to some extent, but it was becoming a little too much, making me feel nauseous.

"I have my electric fan, and please stop worrying," I replied, clutching my backpack tightly as I made my way towards the door, ready to leave my room. But before I could step out, Mom called me back once again. "What now?!" I exclaimed, frustration seeping through my voice and irritation quickly setting in.

"Won't you give me a goodbye kiss?" she asked.

"Ew!" I exclaimed, the only disgusted word I could muster as I left the room and headed towards the main door, leading out of the house.

The wind greeted me, brushing against my face and teasing my hair, with a few strands brushing against my lips. This is exactly why I dislike wearing my hair down; it always manages to distract me.

I strolled down the familiar streets of my neighborhood, contemplating meeting up with Tresa. It had been two weeks since she last reached out to me, and I despised the feeling of being ignored. Just as I approached Tresa's gate, she thankfully emerged, accompanied by two other female friends.

Our eyes met, and I forced a smile to appear on my face.

However, Tresa disregarded me and confidently crossed to the other side of the road, as if she wanted to avoid me. But I wasn't one to give up so easily.

Determined, I too crossed the road, striving to catch up with her.

"Hey, Tresa, wait up!" I called out, my voice filled with a blend of surprise and anticipation. To my delight, she actually stopped, allowing me to close the distance between us. It had felt like an eternity since we had last laid eyes on each other, although in reality, it had only been two short weeks. As I neared her, an overwhelming urge to embrace her washed over me, but my intentions were swiftly thwarted by her two loyal friends, playfully dubbed "Tresa's minions" in my mind. They intercepted any physical contact, treating me as if I were some contagious virus in desperate need of elimination.

"No hugging!" Tresa's minions exclaimed, their voices strong and unwavering. While I knew their true names, it amused me to label them as such for the purpose of this tale.

"What in the world is all this about?" I finally managed to blurt out, attempting to salvage the situation with a simple handshake.

However, my efforts were swiftly quashed by the persistent minions. I shifted my gaze towards Tresa, silently pleading for even the slightest response. A single word from her would have sufficed. I just needed her to acknowledge me.

"Tresa does not wish to speak with you," the minions declared, their voices dripping with an air of superiority.

"Just... just stop it!" I retorted, my patience wearing thin as I redirected my attention back to Tresa. "Please, Tresa, just talk to me. You can't keep ignoring me like this," I implored, my voice softening with each word. Finally, she made her decision.

"Yeah, I can," she replied, a tinge of indifference lacing her tone.

"Can't we just forgive each other and move forward? Come on, let's lighten the mood. Tell me a joke, please!" I pleaded, searching for any way to mend the silence between Tresa and me.

"Oh, you want a joke? Why don't you just get the hell out of my way and ignore me forever…" she shot back, her tone laced with resentment.

"That joke isn't funny!"

"That's because it isn't a joke," Tresa replied earnestly. In that moment, I realized I needed to consider an alternative approach. I retrieved a freshly baked pie that I had labored over all night, knowing it was her favorite. It was a small gesture of my remorse, even though I still couldn't fully comprehend what I had done wrong. Nevertheless, I played into Tresa's strategy and admitted my fault, even though deep down, I knew it wasn't entirely mine.

Tresa's gaze lingered upon the carefully wrapped pie as she inquisitively asked, "What is that?"

"It's a surprise!" I answered, my heart swelling with hope that my plan to salvage our friendship was finally gaining traction.

Slowly, Tresa began to unwrap the gift, revealing the heartfelt pie I had prepared. "Ta-da!" I cheerfully announced, a genuine smile tugging at my lips.

As Tresa's eyes met mine, a smile danced on her lips, and for a fleeting moment, I dared to believe that my plan had succeeded. But alas, my hope evaporated into thin air. It was a mirage, too enchanting to be real. How foolish I was to dare to think that I had finally managed to bring a smile to Tresa's face and appease her.

Unexpectedly, Tresa approached me with purpose in her stride. I anticipated a warm embrace, but instead, she delivered a firm smack, causing the pie I had painstakingly prepared for her to splatter across my freshly adorned school uniform shirt. To my dismay, the scene unfolded before her loyal followers, their bewilderment etched on their faces. In the midst of the chaos, one of her minions seized the opportunity to capture my humiliation, the flash of the phone's camera blinding me momentarily. The words escaped me, trapped in a state of speechlessness.
