The Don turned to leave the dining room, but he stopped at the threshold and looked back at them.

“Bring Miss Wence,” he said. “I’m sure it’ll be boring for her wherever you’re staying. There is a pool-house on the grounds.”

When he left, Lincoln glanced down at Vivi, and she looked up at him.

“I think I missed something,” she said.

“Let me escort you out,” Matteo said. He gestured for them to follow. “I’ll inform the guard shack that you and Miss Wence will be regulars here until business is concluded.”

“Idefinitelymissed something,” she muttered.

“Shush,” Lincoln muttered for her ears only. “Not until we leave.”

Their truck waited for them right where they had left it. While Lincoln went to the driver’s side, Matteo held open the passenger door for her and tilted his head as he studied her.

“Thank you for our talk,” he expressed in a soft voice. “I, ah, it’s not often I can indulge in my memories.”

She took hold of his hand. “Anytime you need to talk, I’d be happy to listen.”

He stared at their clasped hands for a moment before he nodded, stepping back as she hopped up into the truck and closed the door. She waved as they drove away.

“What was that about?” Lincoln asked.

“You have your trade secrets and I have mine,” she replied. “But we’ve got to go to Walmart. If I’m going to be hanging out all day while you work, I’m gonna need a bathing suit, endless Mojitos, and a supply of romance books. Oh, and a present for Draco.”

Chapter Seventeen

Sally had been correct. The party was in full swing with no end in sight. Heavy metal blared from the speakers. Pot hung heavy in the air. There were people everywhere. Outside, inside, lingering on the stairs, sitting on furniture, dancing, laughing, drinking … sex was also going on all around. Obviously, the couples, threesomes, foursomes, and then-somes, did not possess one embarrassed bone in their bodies. Boobs, dicks, shaved vaginas, Vivi got an eyeful. Through it all, Draco held court near the bar. Telling stories and laughing while he held a beer in one hand and a busty blonde in the other.

She marched up to him and held out a gift bag. Lincoln followed, curling an arm around her waist.

“What’s this?” Draco asked. “You got me a present?”

“Of course we did,” she said. “You’ve graciously let us into your home. It’s just a small token of our appreciation.”

Draco set his beer on the bar counter and removed his arm from around his chick’s waist to take the gift. He pulled out tissue paper and looked inside.

“Oh. Wow.” He pulled out a set of riding gloves and read the tag. “Heated gloves. Thank you. This is an awesome gift.”

Vivi beamed. “I’m so glad you like them! I figured, Chicago. Right?”

“It gets colder than a witch’s tit,” he said, nodding. “This is seriously an awesome gift. Thank you, Vivi.”

“Hey, tiny girl!” A voice called out. “Time for our game!”

“Asshole,” Lincoln muttered.

“Shush,” she said. “It’s just a game.”

Vivi grabbed his hand and led him to the pool table. Kian leaned on his stick, watching her with something like indulgence.

“My cheek is ready for your lips,” he said.

“And my ears are ready to hear you sing my praises.”

Another man cupped his mouth and yelled, “Place bets on who’s gonna win!”

Suddenly, the music was turned off and a flurry of betting calls buzzed around the room. Vivi went over to pick out a stick, checking the weight of each and finding one with a heavier balance. She took her time adding the chalk while someone else set up the rack.
