A defeated slope to his shoulders settled on them and he glanced over at Vivi. “I haven’t thought straight since the first moment you touched me.”

“This obsession isn’t healthy, you know.”What could I say that would get through to him?“You need to figure out the reason why you’re angry. I can’t be your crutch.”

“What does he have that I don’t?”

Even pissed off at him, Vivi’s heart broke at the sorrow in his voice. When she reached for him, Lincoln grabbed her arm to stop her. She patted his arm to let him know it was okay. His jaw hardened but he let her go. Vivi kneeled at his side and laid her palm on Cross’s cheek.

“Calm your mind,” she whispered. Cross closed his eyes as his face relaxed in peace. “Listen to what I say. When the anger in your head gets to be too much, remember my voice.”

Tears leaked from his closed eyelids. “I wish I never let O’Shannon talk me into keeping you a prisoner. Maybe then you’d have fallen for me instead.”

“Maybe,” she said, knowing she wouldn’t have stayed. Their auras were completely different. “Go home, Cross. Fix your arm and your nose, and your anger. Your men need you.”

“Get the fuck out of here,” Lincoln snarled. “You’re on Death Riders territory.”

Lincoln slowly rose to his feet. Vivi went to help him, but Lincoln held her back. Watching him limp away broke her heart. She might have been angry at him, but she certainly didn’t want him hurt like this. They watched until he turned the corner and disappeared.

Vivi slipped her arms around his waist. “Thank you for not killing him.”

“I wanted to.”

“I know.”

“It would’ve been so easy to punch my fist through his face.”

“I know.”

“Stop that.”

“Stop what?”

“Agreeing with me.”

“You want me to disagree?”

He pulled her around in front of him and cupped her face. “I want you however you want to be. Agreeable. Disagreeable. Sad. Happy, Angry.”

“You telling me it’s okay to fight with you?”

“I’m telling you that being with me, you’re gonna have to accept certain aspects of me.”

“You mean having fists like anvils?”

“Yes. But also the fact I may have to hurt people.”

She covered his hands with hers. “Like the person who killed my brother?”

“Yeah. People like him.”

“Okay.”

His brows drew together. “Okay? That’s it? Just okay?”

“You want me to say it’s not okay? You’re in an MC. There’s a one percent patch on your cut. I’m not dumb, although many people think I am. I think it’s my short stature.” She shrugged. “You’re a good man, Linc Rollison, even though you may do not good things. But I’ll let you make those calls. Just don’t bring it home, especially when we start having babies.”

“Deal,” he said softly. “I fucking love you.”

“And I love fucking you, so it’s a win-win all around.”
