“You became mine when you let me be the first man to slide into your perfect body and proved that to be true again when you kissed me on the beach.”

“God, I hate you,” she argued, but her body was saying something else completely. Her eyelids narrowed viciously as she jabbed me in the chest with her finger. “I can’t believe you! He just told me what you did when you found out he was going to ask me to prom. You scared him away!”

Well, guess that particular cat’s finally out of the bag.

I dug down deep, looking for a hint of shame or guilt for what I’d done, but there was nothing.

I straightened and crossed my arms over my chest. “Goddamn right I did,” I answered unrepentantly. “And I’d do it again.”

“You ruined my prom night! Because of you, I sat at home all night, feeling sorry for myself.”

Okay, so I didn’t like hearing that. Still... “Better than you going out with that fuckface. Besides, did you really want to go out with some limp dick chickenshit who’d let someone else scare him away?” I challenged, knowing her better than that. “I did what I did because I overheard him talking to one of his loser buddies about how he was going to try and get in your pants that night.”

She slowly blinked. Obviously, she hadn’t heard that part.

“You deserved better than that fucking asshole. I just made sure he knew it, and if I need to go out there right now and remind him, that’s what I’ll do.”

Her hands shot out, wrapping around my forearm to hold me in place. “Don’t you dare!” she squeaked. “So help me, Beau, if you go out there and embarrass me, I’ll never speak to you again.”

The two of us entered into a silent standoff that lasted until she huffed out a frustrated breath.

“I’m done with this. Move out of my way, I’m going back out there.”

But I didn’t move, instead, I kept her blocked as I warned, “This is the first and last date that fucker gets, Presley. When you go back out there, you better make sure he understands that.”

If she didn’t, I sure as hell would. And I’d let him know who she belonged to while I was at it.

With that, I turned on my heel and headed back to my table. I was going to get that second sandwich, and I was going to eat it while my Bubbles put that fucker in his place.

Chapter Seventeen

PRESLEY

I bangedon Colbie’s front door at a manic pace, the sound like rapid-fire gunshots against the white painted wood. My knuckles hurt, and I was actually worried I’d broken the skin, but I couldn’t seem to make myself stop.

I’d been like this—keyed up and frantic—since I finally managed to drag myself out of that alcove and back down the hall on wobbly knees at the Sand Dollar. To say the rest of my lunch date had been awkward as hell would have been an understatement.

Mike hadn’t missed Beau getting up and following me, he also hadn’t missed the flush that covered my skin or the way my hands wouldn’t stop trembling. But he hadn’t done a damn thing to stop another man from charging after his date, and after that happened, he hadn’t brought it up either, choosing instead to carry on awkwardly, like we didn’t both know what happened.

As much as it pained me to admit, Beau was right. I’d really wanted to like Mike, but I couldn’t get down with a guy like that, so at the end of the date—an ending that came only a few minutes after I returned to the table, I’d given him a friendly handshake instead of a hug, or even a kiss, and told him I’d seehim around before he could do something like ask if we could do this again.

The disappointment on his face told me he’d gotten the hint, but he was polite about it, saying he’d see me around and hoped everything worked out with the bar. In the end, the date had been... mediocre at best, and something told me it would have been the same whether or not Beau had been there.

“Colbie!” I shouted as my other hand came up and I began to bang with both fists in earnest. “Cooooooooolbieeeeeee!”

The door flew open so fast I almost accidentally punched my best friend in the face. She looked harried and disheveled. “Someone better be dead,” she squeaked. “I was trying to pee! I had to pinch it off before I was finished. Do you have any idea how uncomfortable that is?”

I glanced down, and sure enough, the front seam of her leggings was twisted to the side like she’d had to yank them up quickly. I pushed past her as I dragged my hands through my hair. “I had sex with Beau,” I blurted, the words spilling out as I paced the entryway of her home.

“What?” she cried so loud that the one word echoed off the floor and walls, bouncing back at me over and over.

“So, you know how I had that lunch date with Mike today?”

Colbie’s jaw hinged open and her eyes nearly bugged right out of her skull. “You had sex with Beau at the Sand Dollar during your date?”

“What? No! God, no! I ran into him today. He just so happened to be at the same restaurant with Sam when I showed up with Mike, and he totally lost his shit after what happened at the beach two days ago.”

Closing her eyes, she shook her head like she was trying to unscramble it. “Wait, so you had sex with him two days ago at the beach?”
