Beau let out a sigh, the disappointment weighing his shoulders down as he shook his head and took a step to the side, waving them up from the table. “I ordered an Uber to take you back to campus. Get out of here. Sleep off what you can tonight. I’ll finish with you tomorrow at practice.”

The five of them shuffled out of the bar. No doubt, what had seemed like a brilliant idea to blow off steam was now a decision they were seriously regretting.

I expected Beau to follow after them, having taken care of what he came to do, but instead of heading to the door, he lookedup, his gaze landing on mine for a beat before he started in my direction.

My chest squeezed, panic and excitement mingling together and creating something inside my belly that felt an awful lot like what happened when you dropped a Mentos in a bottle of Coke.

“Hey.” His voice was deep and velvety. “You got a minute to talk?”

I wasn’t sure if being alone in a small, quiet room with him was a smart idea, but I could feel people looking at us and didn’t want to start any gossip, so I nodded and led him back to my office. The room wasn’t very big to begin with, but when Beau stepped inside, shutting the door behind him, it felt like the space shrank in half.

The things I’d told Colbie earlier about being sad replayed in my mind as I folded my arms over my chest and rested my behind on the edge of my desk. I tried to look casual, but tension and nerves poured off me, filling the room until the air felt thick and humid.

“Thanks for, you know, handling that whole thing out there.”

He reached up and rubbed at the back of his neck. “You shouldn’t be thanking me. I’m sorry it happened. I appreciate you not calling Cade in. I know tonight wasn’t a good indicator, but they really are good kids.”

“I don’t doubt that, Beau. They made a stupid decision. One of many, I’m sure, because they’re still young. But you handled the whole situation well. It’s obvious they respect you.”

“Yeah. Maybe.” Judging from the look on his face, I wasn’t sure he believed that, and seeing that concern lingering in his clear blue eyes tugged at something in me, made me soften toward him more than I already was.

I cleared my throat, giving my head a shake to try and erase those thoughts like my brain was an Etch A Sketch.

“So, um... what did you want to talk?—”

He cut me off, moving so fast I didn’t see it coming. One second he was standing near the door, and the next, he was cradling my face in his large hands and sealing his mouth over mine in a searing kiss that had my toes curling inside my shoes and my heart beating right between my thighs where I wanted him the most.

A whimper vibrated up my throat as Beau dragged his tongue across the seam of my lips, requesting entrance. I was helpless to resist. My lips parted, my tongue darting out to meet his, cranking up the kiss to a thousand.

When I moaned into his mouth and parted my thighs, giving him room to squeeze between them, he emitted a ferocious growl. One moment he had my hips pressed against the desk, and the next my legs were wrapped around his waist, his hands palming my ass, and he was moving us, pinning me against the wall beside the door.

I could feel his erection pressing insistently at his fly, that steel rod cradled in the apex of my thighs.

“Mmm, Beau,” I moaned against his lips, fisting his hair in my hands when he rocked his hips, prodding at my aching clit with the rock-hard cock behind his jeans.

He pulled his mouth from mine, peppering kisses along my jaw and down my neck as he whispered against my skin. “To answer your question, thisis what I wanted to talk to you about.”

With a kiss, he’d managed to scramble my brain where I could barely think, let alone speak.

“I wanted to talk about the fact that you keep running away from me, even though the chemistry between us is hot enough to put the sun to shame.”

“I don’t?—”

He lifted his head to lock eyes with me and wrapped one large hand around my throat. He didn’t apply any pressure, but something about it being there, the weight of it collaring me,sent a flood of arousal between my thighs, soaking my panties through. His thumb scraped across my bottom lip before he pressed it to silence the words spilling out of my mouth.

“No lies,” he ground out. “I don’t want to hear lies about you not feeling what Iknowis between us, or that it was a mistake or wrong, or any of the other bullshit you’re trying to convince yourself of because you’re scared.”

Something moved through me. A switch flipped at being called out, but this one was completely different from the ones of the past. He’d pressed a button, but instead of triggering rage, he triggered something altogether different.

My lips parted around his thumb, drawing it into my mouth and sucking before scraping my bottom teeth across the pad of it.

My eyes dropped to half-mast as his own flared, a rumble rattling from deep in his chest.

“Don’t tell me there’s nothing between us when I know if I were to slide my hand inside your panties right now, I’d find you dripping for me.”

I sucked his thumb even harder as a wave of need crashed into me.

He leaned in, dragging the top of his nose across my neck to the shell of my ear before nipping on the lobe. “I’m right, aren’t I?”
