Weird, I thought the little beach bunny would be a Rams fan, but maybe she’s one of those people who just picks a team from any game she’s watching and follows along. My mom was like that. Sure, she was loyal to Colorado, particularly when it came to hockey, but she loved watching any game on the ice and would cheer for whichever teams were playing.

So, Mickey Mouse is a football girl. Interesting.

“What are you staring at?” Liam nudges me, looking over his shoulder.

“Oh, just… the game.” I shrug.

His eyes dart to the screen, and he nods. “Sweet. We’re up.”

“Yeah, should be a guaranteed win, right?”

My comment sets off a quick discussion with Connor and Riley, who appeared a few minutes ago. Riley’s brother plays Nolan U football. He’s a senior this year and takes great delight in teasing lil’ Ry-Ry about hockey. It’s all in good fun, but man, I’d pay decent money to see those meatheads try playing on the ice. They’d get thrashed. You can’t tell me it takes more skill to throw a leather ball down the field. And body checks in hockey can be just as brutal as football tackles.

“Hey, boys.” Two girls sashay past the table, their hips swaying in a sultry rhythm that captures Riley’s attention and diverts Connor. He’s lured to the dance floor while I take another swig of beer and find my eyes tracking back to Mikayla.

She’s still watching the game but flinches when the blonde beside her shakes her arm and says something with a sneer.

Mikayla angles her body back to the group, and even though I can’t see her face anymore, I know she’s bored.

Like really bored.

She has to be.

Because I know she’d rather sit in a bar watching a football game than talk about whatever the hell Sig Be sisters obsess over.

It’s time for a rescue.

It’s probably a stupid decision. I’m supposed to be avoiding this girl. But that thought doesn’t stop me from placing my beer on the table and muttering, “I’ll be right back.”

CHAPTER15

MIKAYLA

I’m dying.

I’ve been transported into a new type of hell where football is playing on TV but I’m not allowed to watch it, and my toes are squished into pointy heels, and the jeans I’m wearing are so tight I’m getting an understanding of what those corset-wearing women had to suffer back in the day.

What I wouldn’t give to be tucked up in my room studying economics or holed up in the library staying on top of my course reading. But no. I had to come out tonight because the Sig Be sisters were in the mood to party, and apparently, I’m not allowed to have my own opinions in that house… not until I’ve proven how committed I am.

Shitballs!

I go to rub my eye, and Teah quickly snatches my wrist before I can. “You’ll smudge your makeup.”

“Right.” I force a smile and wrap my fingers around my root beer bottle instead. If I squeeze it hard enough, will the glass crack and shatter? Will the shards skirt across the table and bury themselves into Fiona’s perfectly pale skin?

At least Aimee’s not here, I suppose. She had to study for a test tomorrow, which feels monumentally unfair when I had to drag my ass out tonight. I wanted to study, too, dammit!

Gimme books to pore over. Gimme comfy pillows to lean against. Gimme boxer shorts, no bra, and a baggy T-shirt.

“Hello, ladies.” The deep voice makes my nipples stand to attention, and I whip a look over my shoulder, my body completely betraying me when I catch Ethan’s smile.

He smells good. He smells so frickin’ good, and now that tingling sensation is flooding my body, pooling between my legs, and?—

Stop it! He doesn’t want you, remember?

“Hey, Ethan.” I don’t know how she’s doing it, but Fiona’s bright gaze seems to be a combination offuck offanddo me.There are hints of both icy coolness and lust in her smile, and it’s weirding me out.

I grab my drink and guzzle it, keeping my gaze diverted from the solid chest that’s lingering right by my head. His arm is on the back of my stool, his bicep grazing my shoulder blade before he leans down and murmurs, “Nice to see you, Mick.”
