“Oh,” said Renny. “The cop.”

“That’s him, my friend.”

“He’s strong,” said Rodney. “Relatively.” Uttering the word with pride.

“He was a good spotter,” said Renny. “But I don’t think he could do a full press with it.”

“Totally not,” said Rodney. “But he could spot.” To Milo: “He’s your friend.”

“Yup.”

“Wow.”

Milo pulled up a chair and faced them. “Anyway, is there anything else you want to tell me about what Lisette did?”

“She called us and said there was a guy.”

Milo said, “Tyler Hoffgarden.”

“She didn’t say the name,” said Renny.

“She said he wanted to rape her,” said Rodney.

“She said she needed to scare him.”

“She said we’re the only ones could do it ’cause he’s big.”

“Not as big as us.”

“No way.” Rodney managed a shy smile.

His brother saw it and imitated but with scant conviction.

“She said come here and when I tell you, surprise him.”

Milo said, “Surprise Tyler Hoffgarden.”

“Yes, sir.”

“How?”

Both twins raised their arms and clawed their hands.

Milo said, “Grab him?”

Rodney said, “Grab him and control him.”

“Here,” said Renny, touching a spot on his own shoulder.

“You pinch it,” said Rodney, “then you control.”

“He tried to fight us,” said Renny.

“We controlled him. We don’t like rapers.”

“We know girls who got raped. If they wanted us to control a dude we’d control.”

“He was big,” said Rodney. “No way she could’ve controlled.”
