The music stopped.

Everyone turned to look back up the aisle.

Father and daughter, standing so close together they could have been one.

The music sounded again, and the notes of the traditional wedding march rolled out of the open doorway and onto the mountain.

Amalie’s gaze went straight to the altar, to the man waiting for her there.

“Are you ready?” Wolf whispered.

She leaned against him. “Yes.”

She had been waiting for this moment, and the man at the altar, all her life.

Sean was blinking back tears, and it was all he could do to be still and wait for her to come to him. He understood the gesture of a father giving away his daughter, but it was an unnecessary act. She had always belonged to him.

Then they were standing at the pulpit, and Preacher Farley asked, “Who gives the woman?”

Wolf’s voice never wavered. “Her mother and I do,”he said, and then he kissed Amalie’s hand and took his seat.

Amalie and Sean’s fingers locked as they faced the pulpit, waiting through all the ritual, waiting through all of the prose and promises… Waiting for the words…

“Do you, Sean, take thee, Amalie…”

“Do you, Amalie, take thee, Sean…”

The FOREVERring went on her finger, and the engagement ring was moved to follow.

Brother Farley’s voice was wavering. “You may now kiss your bride,” he said, but the words would forever echo in their minds.

The moment they turned, a loud whoop came from somewhere in the congregation, and then everyone was smiling as they made their escape down the aisle and out into the parking lot to the waiting limo. The reception was down the mountain, and nobody wanted to miss it.

Wolf was standing in the doorway with his hands in his pockets, grinning from ear to ear when Shirley slipped up behind him and gave him a pat on the arm.

“Welcome to the family,” she said.

He turned and gave her a big hug. “It’s good to be here! Is Miss Ella coming to the reception?”

Shirley nodded. “She wouldn’t miss it for the world, and I’m not so sure if she’s ever taking that dress off again.”

“If I asked her to dance, would it be a bad thing?” he asked.

“It would be the perfect end to her most perfect day.And save a slow one for me. I may need rescuing. Wiley’s on fire today.”

Wolf laughed. “At his age, I was just like him.”

Sean leaned over in the limo and whispered in Amalie’s ear.

“So, Mrs. Pope, how am I doing so far?”

She was so full of happy she was shaking.

“You’re always my home-run hitter, Mr. Pope.”

“We have the honeymoon suite for the next two days, and then home to the mountain. Whatever should we do with all that time?”

“As long as it has nothing to do with bubble gum or spray paint, I’m your girl.”
