As he thrust inside me, still pressing my most sensitive spot, and bit my neck, I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I shattered around him, latching onto his shoulders, his torso, his hips, his legs.

My whole body shook, overcome with Danny. Unable to ignore my explosion, he thrust inside a few more times, each one even more erratic than the last, until he groaned my name and spilled his desire and love inside me.

Time seemed to stop for us, and we made the best of it.

After a while, we were recovering from our second round. I rested my head on his chest, tracing his chest with my fingers, while he rubbed my back lightly, leaving soft kisses on my forehead every once in a while.

I sighed so deeply, I felt the cleansing in my mind, letting my insecurities away.

“When Fee was taken away and you were hurt, I almost lost myself.” His voice was grave and low, as if, even if we were the only ones there, that admission shouldn’t leave the bubble surrounding us. “The idea of not having you both by my side was paralyzing and filled me with fear. But when I got home with my daughter and found you there waiting for us, everything seemed to click into place. Your presence comforts me. Even the worst of days become bearable because of you.”

“You know it wasn’t your fault, right?”

He squeezed his arm around me and pressed his lips on my forehead. “I’m working on believing in that. It’s not an easy task, but I’m trying. It’s just...it feels like that could’ve been avoided somehow. If I’d never been involved with Andrea. If I’d caught him already.”

“If you hadn’t been with Andrea, we wouldn’t have Sofia, and that’s such a shame. About the man, I know you’re doing your best.”

He smiled at me and nodded. “You’re right. In a way, I should be thankful for knowing Andrea. And we’re doing everything we can to bring him down.” He closed his eyes and rubbed his hand over his face. “I just can’t wait for all this to be over.”

I kissed his chest and hugged his torso. “I’m so proud of you.” He gazed down at me in question. “You’re so brave, always taking care of everyone around you, fighting dangerous people. We don’t know half of the evil you face, yet you wake up every day willing to put your life on the line to make this world a better place to live. You, Daniel Delgado, are a marvelous man.”

His Adam’s apple went up and down, and he seemed emotional at my words. They were true, and he should hear them more often. He leaned down and took my lips for a sweet kiss.

I had so many good and bad days in my life that some of them got lost in my memories. But a few of them touched me differently, and most of them involved Danny and Sofia.

That day was another one for me to remember. It felt like a pivotal point in our relationship. Not only a step forward, but a step in the right direction. Our direction.

As our kiss progressed, I couldn’t help considering how much my life had changed—for the better—since the day I met that man. That day was the beginning of something beautiful in my life, and it led me right to that Thanksgiving Day when we professed our love.

All that was missing was our little girl. But we had a lot of new days ahead of us.

Our life was just beginning.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

After a night of barely sleeping, I shouldn’t be that energized. Yet I was. I felt like I could conquer the world and look pretty while doing so. Danny and I woke up, only to make love another time before having a lazy breakfast.

But we both missed Sofia, so we headed to Mia and Haley’s home to make sure they survived the Fee-Gabe duo.

We arrived at their place, and only then did I realize I hadn’t been there before. Even from the outside, you could say the house was cozy. It was a charming duplex, butDanny explained to me that the unit upstairs wasn’t connected to the main area, and Mia normally rented it.The front lawn was trimmed and inviting. The two big windows on the front wall were covered by drapes, but they couldn’t hide the fun they seemed to be having inside.

When we walked to the front door, we heard a familiar cartoon tune, followed by Hugo’s lazy bark. Even though the show was on, Gabe and Fee’s voices were louder as they laughed and chatted.

With a grin tugging his lips, Danny knocked on the door and then pulled me closer to peck my lips before someone answered.

Haley opened the door and greeted us. “Hey, guys.” She hugged us and waved us inside. “You’re right on time for breakfast. We’re a little late on the day’s schedule.” She giggled.

“Don’t worry about us, we’ve just eaten,” Danny chimed in.

“We don’t want to put you out,” I added.

Her smile was soft and incredibly sweet. “It’ll be a pleasure for us. Come on. You can eat a little bite.”

She pulled my hands through the living room, and we joined the noise in the kitchen. True to Mia’s words to Danny, they were indeed having a pajama party. Only then did I notice Haley was also a part of it.

All dressed in flannel pajamas—Fee was wearing one of Gabe’s, with the hem of the pants folded up—they completed their looks with animal-shaped slippers. Even Hugo was wearing a pajama shirt.

He was the first one to spot us and pranced our way, lazily wagging his tail and rubbing his furry body between us before he dropped to the floor and rolled onto his back, waiting for belly rubs.
