"I'm no a geriatric, but don't let Paula play on the stairs. I wish I had a one of those gates," Derrick said.

"You need one of those gates for you," Malcolm muttered under his breath and Derrick glared at him.

As they worked, Malcolm found himself distracted by Derrick. Even in his own home, he didn't seemed any more approachable. Malcolm tried to make sure Derrick didn't have any reason tomove around. He still kept getting to his feet to get things for himself.

"You should tell me when you need something," Malcolm told him.

"I'm not helpless. You don't need to baby me," Derrick told him.

"Just trying to be a good assistant," Malcolm said, a little hurt at the brush off. "You need to stay off that foot."

He wondered if Derrick wanted to send him a message that their relationship wasn't personal despite what happened at Warren's party and that was why he wasn't letting him do things for him here.

Hell, Derrick wouldn't even let him order food for them. He had it delivered even before Malcolm knew he had done it.

They took a break and Malcolm collected Paula from the reading room. They went to Derrick's impressive kitchen to eat at the black marble counter. As he served Paula some pasta with pesto and peas, Malcolm noticed that the kitchen was suspiciously spotless.

"This is one clean kitchen," he said.

"I know what you're implying," Derrick said then he admitted why the kitchen looked untouched. "I hardly use it. I don't cook."

Now Malcolm asked Paula, "Do you think Derrick should learn to cook."

She said, "Yes."

"Alright, and what should I learn how to cook?" Derrick asked her.

"Cakes!" Paula exclaimed.

"Maybe cupcakes?" Derrick said, grinning at her. Yeah, now Malcolm pictured him making cute little cupcakes and it made him smile.

"I feel like I'm being made fun of," Derrick complained.

"We wouldn't dream of it," Malcolm said.

Paula confirmed it. "No, Mr. A. We like you."

"I like you too," Derrick said and he let his eyes linger on Malcolm like he was telling him that what happened at Warren's party wasn't a one-off.

Chapter 8

When it was time for Mona to pick up Paula, Malcolm started to get nervous or maybe just a little too excited at the prospect of being alone with Derrick in his house. It was dumb of him to anticipate that something would happen between him and Derrick. He was here to work.

Paula waved as she left with Mona, and Malcolm stood at the front door and waved back for too long. He couldn't linger there all day though. He had to go back to the office and he felt like the walls of this huge mansion were closing in on him.

He was being an idiot. Telling himself to just do his damn job, he went into Derrick's office and got to work. He kept his head down and did his best to stay focused on what Derrick needed him to do.

But standing next to his desk so he could show him something on the iPad, Malcolm felt his heart race as he found himself caught in Derrick's steady gaze. Derrick stood up and Malcolm set the iPad on the desk so he wouldn't drop it.

He couldn't look away, couldn't think or move. Then just as he thought that the tension would kill him, Derrick came around his desk. Though he was limping, Derrick stood in front of him then pressed him against his desk. He placed his hands on the edges of the desk on either side of Malcolm, and pushed his way between his legs, then he kissed him hard.

Malcolm's mind went blank as he felt Derrick's lips on his, his body surging against him, their hard cocks rubbing together. Moaning into the kiss, he slid his hands up Derrick's body then back down to grope his ass.

Derrick slipped his hand between them, feeling up Malcolm, drawing a needy moan out of him. "Malcolm," Derrick breathed, pulling back to stare into his eyes with a feral look that should have scared him.

Derrick was unzipping his fly, but before he was done, Malcolm remembered his ankle. "You need to be off your feet," he panted and firmly led Derrick over to the sofa.

Grumbling, he limped to the sofa and Malcolm eased him down onto it. Derrick was now glaring up at him and he looked so hot, Malcolm couldn't resist him for another second.
