Damn. I’m starting to think I’m further gone than I originally thought. Will it be impossible to push these urges down? How in the hell doesonewoman have such an effect?

I lead her into the casino, grimacing at the thought of her learning of this weakness. At this point, I’m not even sure she’d take advantage. If I have to guess, she’d turn her nose in distaste.

Beauties like her don’t go for men like me. Men with scars and a past they can’t take back or ever make up for. V deserves someone normal, not like she’ll ever get that now. Not with her situation.

Losing myself to my thoughts, she’s guiding me to the elevator this time. I give a small nod to the person running the elevator today. Before I know it, we’re heading down.

Once we’ve reached the underground, I see the confusion warp on her face as I lead her toward a room I know she’s never seen before.

“No cameras in here,” I explain as I open the door. “It’s one thing we did right.”

We enter a room full of screens. Unlike the room I watch, what is on the screen is complete gibberish. From the way V straightens up, I can see she understands easily enough. There’s a new look in her eyes, one of excitement. Without another word, she’s tugging away from my hold and approaching the desk full of technology to get a closer look.

“This is where you’ll be working from now on,” I explain as I give the one other person in the room a nod. “Take a seat and get comfortable. You’ll be here until I’m finished up top.”

She takes a seat and her body melts. Now she’s smiling without any effort. Staring at her now, it’s impossible to look away.

“What if I contact someone who owes me to come and plan a rescue mission?” Looking at me, her lips curve up a little more. “You’re offering me so much right now with all of this.”

She feels comfortable enough to joke with me. That’s something I can’t ignore even if I tried.

Fighting a battle between the urge to pinch my brow and cracking a smile, I watch V examine her station.

Her fingers trail over the keyboard, and the stiffness in her shoulders releases. After revealing her environment back at her apartment, I can’t exactly give her a dark room. Though, dimming the lights did give me a look of relief. Still, everything is so foreign to her and I know adjusting will take days, if not weeks.

At least she can stay positive about her situation, purposely spelling out the different ways she can free herself. With her situation, I doubt she’d try. Still, it’s a pleasant shift from the hopelessness she gave off earlier.

With us, we offer a layer of protection. Even if any slip-ups are made, no one will barge in here and try to steal her away. Not if I have anything to do with it. She’s safer here than at some high-end apartment.

“Everything you do will be watched until you can be trusted. That will take a long time, so don’t get your hopes up. If you try anything, we’ll know.” I shift my eyes over to Dario who is leaning back in his chair, staring at my rabbit with curiosity.

If I have to guess, he’s aching to learn more about the person who got into our systems. He’s a competitive one, and I doubt he’d want to work alongside her. Not at first. Once he realizes he can learn from her, I’m sure he’ll be more on board.

He won’t do anything reckless. I don’t even have to say the words, my face gives it away.Be good. If anything happens to her, we might as well lose both of our hackers.

“Dario is one of our best. He’ll be the first to tell me of suspicious activity on your end.” I pat her chair. “What you need to do is point out our weaknesses so we can strengthen our forces.”

When she tilts her head up to look at me, I make the mistake of meeting her gaze. When will I learn how dangerous that is?

“This is going to take a while. I’ve already got a list in my head. Might even take days to fix all of this,” she promises before smiling at me. Asmile. Not some hint of one or one that is held back. This one is natural.

Talk about a knockout blow. Even if it’s to point out our weakness, she still leaves me feeling woozy.

Dario scoffs beside us, unaffected by her beauty. At least I don’t have to worry about the two of them growing close any time soon.

Rather, Ishouldn’tworry at all. Her business is her own, and she doesn’t have any time to waste on any men.

“You’re leaving?” The moment I turn my back, her chair creaks as she tries to keep her attention in my direction.

“I’m a busy man.” That, and even I can’t excuse standing around and simply watching her work. I don’t understand any of this technology. Everything is boring and hardly enough to keepmy attention except for her. Even if I’d love to pass time that way, I have a role to fill. “If I’m needed, Dario will contact me.”

I hear her sigh as clear as day and continue fighting the urge to stay. Soon enough, she’ll be so busy with her work that she’ll forget all about me. Hell, our paths will hardly cross. Except for playing the role of her babysitter, I don’t need to implement myself in her life.

From now on, V is all but another employee. I have to treat her like the rest of the people who help run things around here.

The idea of escaping is becoming less and less like an option as each day passes. Except when I’m in my assigned room, I always have a pair of eyes pointed in my direction.
