But Dylan is not that man.

Chapter 38

Biology – doesn’t always mean anything when it comes to a parent

Indigo

Ipace in front of the living room window. I hear a door shut and rush to look outside. Nope. No visitor has arrived.

Cash wraps his arms around my waist. “What’s going on Indy?”

“Nothing.”

He chuckles. “Liar.”

I whirl around to face him. “Why do you think I’m a liar?”

He nods toward my hands where I’m cracking my knuckles. Shoot. I hide my hands behind my back. “I’m not lying.”

“Why are you nervous?”

Because I did something very scary and I’m worried he’s going to be mad at me. I hate when Cash is mad at me. Although make-up sex is pretty spectacular. Something to look forward to.

“What makes you think I’m nervous?”

“You’ve spent the last thirty minutes pacing the living room.”

I check the clock. He should have been here by now. The doorbell rings and I jump.

Cash starts for the door, but I stop him. “Let me. And please don’t be mad at me.”

“If it’s your mom, I need to book some studio time,” he mutters.

It’s not my mom. The opposite in fact.

I open the door. “Hi, Dad.”

He hugs me tight and I inhale his scent. I missed him. “Hi, baby girl.”

He releases me and I smile up at him. “I’m glad you’re here.”

“Sorry it took me so long.”

I nod in understanding and motion toward Cash who’s hovering at the entrance to the living room. “You remember Cash?”

Dad extends his hand. “I expect you to ask me for her hand in marriage before you propose.”

“Dad!” I slap his stomach. “Cash isn’t proposing.”

“I’m not?” Cash asks.

My cheeks warm and I sputter. “N-n-not right this second.”

He winks. “Okay. I’ll wait.”

“You’re impossible.”

He chuckles. “And you love me.”
