How does she know? Oh yeah. “Winter Falls.”

She beams at me. “Isn’t it great? I wish I’d grown up here instead of Saint Louis.”

“Indy!”

At Cash’s shout, I scan the area but there isn’t anywhere to hide.

“Oh my!” Gabrielle fans her face. “I wish I could get my man to chase after me in nothing but his boxers.”

“Please tell me he isn’t coming this way.”

She laughs. “You’re in big trouble.”

She doesn’t know the half of it.

Cash grasps my hand and whirls me around. “Why are you avoiding me?”

“I’m not avoiding you.”

Gabrielle barks out a laugh behind me. “This is awesome. I’m going to win a bet for a change.”

Cash ignores her. “You promised you wouldn’t regret it in the morning.”

“I also said it was a mistake.”

“Us having sex was not a mistake,” he growls.

I gasp. “It’s not bad enough you’re strutting around outside in your boxer shorts? You’re just going to announce we had sex to the whole world?”

“I don’t fucking care. The whole world can know how much I want you.”

I yank my hand away from his and plant my fists on my hips. “Really? You want me so much you couldn’t wait to get rid of me at graduation.”

He runs a hand through his hair. “It was for your own good.”

“My own good?” I poke him in the chest. “You broke my heart for my own good?”

“Yes.”

“Really? You didn’t break up with me so you could pursue your dream of becoming a rockstar without me? So youcould sleep with all the groupies and not worry about cheating on your boring old high school girlfriend?”

He reaches for my hands but I slap him away. “You’re not boring and I didn’t break up with you to become a rockstar.”

I throw my hands in the air. “Then, why did you?”

He frowns. What he doesn’t do is answer me.

“And you wonder why I called last night a mistake.”

I stomp away but Cash grasps my bicep to stop me. I glare at him. “I did not give you permission to touch me, Mr. Evans.”

He drops his hand. “I’m sorry. Please don’t go.”

I snort. “You have got to be kidding me. You know what happened when I begged you not to leave me? When I begged you to let me fix whatever was wrong between us?” I lean close to hiss in his face. “You left. Walked away without looking back.”

Gabrielle clears her throat. “As much as I’m enjoying this – and I am truly enjoying this – I think you may want to relocate your conversation to somewhere private.” She nods toward the group of elderly women on the sidewalk across the street. “The gossip gals won’t hesitate to listen to everything and then post the entire conversation on the Winter Falls Facebook page word for word.”

“Works for me. I’m done with this conversation anyway.” I stomp away.
