I shrug. “What? It’s true.”

“We’re all idiots when we’re teenagers, but you still should have told me.”

“No way. I wasn’t causing a rift between you and your mom. I didn’t want you to lose your mother the way I lost mine.”

“I’m not sure it’d be much of a loss,” she mutters before raising her voice. “Cash, sweetie, it’s not your job to protect me.”

“It will always be my job to protect you.”

“You should have told me.”

“You can repeat yourself as many times as you want, but it doesn’t change anything.”

She frames my face with her hands. “Promise me.”

“Anything.”

Whatever she wants is hers. Unless she wants me to leave. That’s not happening. I will never leave her again. Hermother can’t influence me anymore. Especially after she was a no show yesterday.

“Promise me you’ll always tell me the truth from now on.”

“Will you forgive me if I do?”

She kisses my nose. “There’s nothing to forgive. My mom’s the one who should be begging for my forgiveness.”

I ignore the mom comment. I don’t want to discuss her mom anymore. “I promise I will always tell you the truth.”

“Good. We can’t build a relationship on a pack of lies.”

My heart gallops in my chest. “Does this mean you want to be with me?”

She blows out a breath. “I’m probably making the biggest mistake of my life but I can’t resist you.”

“You don’t have to.”

She rolls her eyes. “Such a charmer.”

“Only for you, Indy. Always for you.”

She bites her bottom lip as she studies me. “But what about when you leave Winter Falls?”

I won’t be going anywhere Indy isn’t. But I keep those thoughts to myself. She’d freak out if she knew my plan was to keep her forever. She’s not ready for my declarations of love and forever.

“You’re not here forever either,” I remind her.

“But I’m here for the next year.”

“I guess it’s going to take a year forCash & the Sinnersto write our next album.”

She smacks my chest. “You can’t put your career on hold for a year for me.”

I waggle my eyebrows. “Wanna bet?”

“I’m serious. Your career is important.”

“Not as important as you are.”

She studies my face and I let her see it all. My love for her. My desire to never let her go. “You’re not lying.”
