Cash never said he was sticking around. He’s staying until the band finishes their latest album. Which won’t take a year no matter what he says. The fans have been clamoring for another concert tour already. Soon enough he’ll be gone and where does that leave me? Leave us?

Knock it off, Indy. Standing on the sidewalk while my cat eyeballs me is not the moment for deep contemplation about my romantic relationship.

“Come on, Katy. Let’s go home.” I bend to pick her up but she swipes at me before rushing off.

“I got him,” Forest shouts before emerging from the bushes with a chipmunk cradled in his arms. “Let’s go home and get you a treat. You’ve had a traumatic morning,” he murmurs to the animal as he walks away.

“Cash?” I call. “You can come out now.”

He crawls out of the bushes and stands. I pull a twig out of his hair.

He scowls. “If you tell anyone about me crawling around in the bushes…”

“You’ll what?”

He wraps an arm around my waist and tugs me to him. “I’ll spank your sweet cheeks.”

Heat rushes through me straight to my core at his words. I’ve never been spanked before but the idea of Cash spanking my naked bottom sounds intriguing.

“No spanking,” I claim but my words come out breathy.

He winks. “You’ll change your mind.”

He stares at my lips and I bite my bottom one. He groans before releasing me.

“You wanted to talk.”

His reminder douses my arousal better than a bucket of ice water. I nod and we walk back to the house in silence.

“Do you want a beer?” I ask when we enter.

“I’m good.”

Dang. So much for my stalling.

I sit on the couch. I expect Cash to sit next to me, but he doesn’t. He perches on the coffee table between my legs.

I open my mouth to tell him to give me some space but he holds up a hand to stop me. “No. I’ll have the ‘talk’ with you but I will be touching you the entire time.”

“Why didn’t you stay and say hi to your fans?” I blurt out before I can stop myself.

His brow wrinkles. “I waved to them and said hi.”

I roll my eyes. “But you didn’t greet them the way Gibson and Jett did.”

He scowls. “Do not compare me to those man whores.”

He’s right. I’m being unfair.

“Maybe you don’t sleep with all of your groupies, but—”

“I don’t sleep with any of the groupies,” he interrupts to say.

I do not want to think about him having sex with other women. Moving on. “But you are on the road all the time.”

“I’m in a band. We tour. But we’re not on the road all the time.”

“Semantics. You’re never home.”
