“Yeah. Living with your boss isn’t fun.”

I shiver. “Especially when your boss isn’t exactly friendly.”

She shrugs. “Gratitude isn’t too bad.”

“You obviously haven’t had to deal with her after you returned a book a day late.”

She gasps. “Indigo! You should know better.”

I giggle. I’ve never returned a book late in my life, but teasing Virginia the righteous librarian is too much fun.

We pull into the parking lot of the apartment building. By the time Cash backs the truck up so we can easily unload, his bandmates are arriving.

“I win! I was here first,” Jett declares.

Fender shoves him. “Not a race.”

“Life is a race, dude. Get with the program.”

Virginia groans. “You had to bring them to help me move?”

I smile. “They’re fun.”

“You have a strange way of saying annoying.”

“You go ahead and unlock your new place,” I nudge her toward the front door. “I’ll deal with the hooligans.”

“Okay. I’m on the second floor. Apartment 203.”

I prop open the front door while the guys pick up boxes and begin carrying them inside.

“I’m going to tear down Virginia’s walls since we’re now neighbors,” Dylan declares as he passes me.

“Don’t be a jerk.”

He grins. “This is going to be fun.”

“Be nice to my friend,” I call after him.

“I’m always nice.”

“I’m not,” Jett says. “But I am always fun.”

“Stop bragging and get going or are your wimpy arms tired already?” Gibson goats.

“I’ll show you tired.”

Jett begins running up the stairs while holding the box above his head. Gibson is hot on his heels.

“Drop any of Virginia’s stuff and you’re answering to me!” Fender grunts next to me. “And to Fender!”

It only takes three trips before all of the boxes are unloaded. I collapse on the sofa next to Virginia who’s cuddling a small animal to her chest.

“What ya got there?”

She smiles. “This is Harry, the hedgehog.”

“Can I cuddle him?” I reach for him but she scoots away.
