I don’t lift my face from her neck. Instead I inhale her sugary scent and continue kissing her neck. I lift her up and place her on the counter, my lips never leaving her skin.

She wraps her arms around my neck and weakly says, “Ice cream.”

“Yep. No. What?”

She giggles. “Ice cream. In one of the bags. We need to put groceries away, and I know from the past few days that if we don’t stay on task we’ll definitely stray from what we need to do.”

“Is that such a bad thing?” I ask, grabbing the fleshy part beneath her butt.

She squirms at my touch. “Nope. But I want that Ben & Jerry’s.”

I smile at her and shake my head before chuckling. “Fine. You win. I won’t be the one to stand in the way of your Chocolate Brownie Batter. What else did you get?”

“Oh, you know, just the basics. Plus, I may have gotten the ingredients to make your favorites.”

“You did?” I ask.

“I did. Tonight we’re having BBQ ribs, though we’ll have to just bake them since we don’t have a grill, homemade coleslaw, and mac and cheese, and some Peanut Butter Fudge Ben & Jerry’s for dessert. Their pickle selection isn’t what we have at home, so you’re just gonna have to deal.”

“Everything you just said just gave me a boner.”

She bends over laughing then stands up quickly and runs to the bathroom. After a minute I hear the toilet flush then the water turn on and off. She comes back into the kitchen area wiping her eyes. She takes one look at me and bursts into a fit of giggles all over again.

I pull her into my arms and look down into her crystal blue eyes that are glistening at me with love. “Thank you for the gifts. I love them. Especially the spank bank material.” I smile down at her.

And another fit of giggles.

“You’re welcome,” she says through a wide smile.

“I loved the note the most,” I say, my voice low and husky even in my own ears. I take a curl that fell from her ponytail and tuck it behind her ear and drag my finger down her face.

“Yeah? It wasn’t corny?”

“Oh, it was corny. But I loved it anyway,” I say knowing that she’ll know I’m teasing. Not about the loving it part, only about it being corny.

“So just the right about of corniness, then?”

“Just right.”

“I love you, Tess. I know we’ve talked about it several times this week, but I do. Some days I wake up and I’m still in shock that you’re mine. I love the life we’ve created. I even love that we disconnected for the past few months.”

“Why?” she asks, her eyebrows bunched together.

“Because it led us here. This week has been so amazing. And not just because I’ve gotten some hot sex. Oomph.” She hits me in the stomach and we both laugh. We’ve been laughing this past week. More than is probably normal, but that’s all right. I won’t trade it for the world.

I straighten back up and study her face. “Do you know what I mean, though?”

“I do. I guess I hadn’t thought of it that way. Us forgetting our way only led us to finding our way again. And the journey has been fun, and probably what we needed even before we lost our way.”

“Exactly. Now, before we drop everything for some more hot sex, let’s take care of this…” I point to the groceries. “…and eat some late breakfast.”

“Good plan,” she says then lifts up on her tiptoes and kisses me square on the mouth. It’s one of my favorite kisses from her.

I help put away the groceries, then we prepare the ribs so we can start slow-roasting them a little later. We get the rest of the meal ready and put in the fridge, then make breakfast.

We spend the day in each other’s arms, watching the snow fall outside the windows, keeping each other warm by both our bodies and the fire. We venture out for a bit to sit in the hot tub, which is so awesome that I’m thinking we need to do again. As in, I might have ordered a hot tub to be delivered as soon as possible. And then we feast on my favorite meal. Because she knows my favorite meal, without having to ask. It was another day of perfection.
