“What? You do.”

“Yeah,” I agree. I still haven’t told Calista how the first introduction between Niall and I went.

“I wish I’d been there to see your reaction when you saw him for the first time,” she says. “Did you just about die over how gorgeous he is?”

I release a huff of laughter. “No.”

“You didn’t?”

“He was a rude jerk to me.”

“What do you mean?”

“He answered the door in his boxer briefs and growled at me. He didn’t even tell me his name.”

“It’s Niall.”

“I know, you told me, but he didn’t.” I sigh.

“I’m sure the next time the two of you interact, it will go better,” she reassures me.

“It couldn’t go any worse.”

“Stop being dramatic,” she scolds.

“Me, dramatic?”

“Yep. You’re the most dramatic person I know,” she tells me.

I laugh. “That’s not saying much; you don’t know many people.”

“That’s true,” she agrees. “And that works for me.”

“Well, in my defense, I am an actress of sorts.” I have to capture and hold the audience’s attention on my show. “Some of that natural flair spills over into my daily life.”

Calista makes a choked sound. “Natural flair, huh? You just made my case for me.”

“Let’s talk about a more important subject,” I suggest.

“That means food or sex. Which one?” Calista asks. She knows me so well. I can’t get enough of her cooking, and I haven’t had sex in an embarrassingly long time. At present, I’m living vicariously through her.

“Food. What deliciousness are you preparing for tomorrow night?” She and Ryder are having a Christmas party at their house.

“A little bit of this and a little bit of that. I’m going to surprise you.” I hear the humor in her tone.

“Please say your famous crab dip is on the menu. I’m making puppy dog eyes at you right now.”

“They’re not necessary. It’s already in the fridge, and I tucked some away for you to bring home.”

“How does Ryder feel about you loving me more than him?”

She snickers. “Shh, who says he knows?”

I laugh. “It’ll remain our little secret.”

“Bring an overnight bag with you in case you want to drink,” she suggests.

“I’d love to stay, but I have too many work tasks to catch up on this weekend.”
