Her eyes go to the round stone and then meet mine. “It looks real to me.”
I shrug. “Can we talk about how fantastic you look in that dress? Holy moly, Ryder will lose his mind by the night’s end.”
“He already did. Why do you think we’re late getting here?” She laughs.
“Lucky you.”
“Maybe you’ll be lucky tonight.” She waggles her eyebrows.
I press my palms together. “Please, Lord. I’ve been a good person.”
Calista laughs. “It’s ironic that you’re praying for the ability to bebad.”
“That’s true.”
She hooks her arm through mine. “Let’s get some drinks and flash that engagement ring around.”

NIALL
“You’re a good dancer,”Lucy says.
“It’s easy with you as a partner. You’re light on your feet and light on mine.” I smile.
“Hey, I haven’t stepped on your feet at all.”
“That’s why you’re light on mine.”
“How much longer do we need to stay here?” she asks.
My forehead wrinkles with concern. “You’re not having fun?”
“It’s not that. Seeing Calista’s been great, but I’ve been on display all night. And I know you probably think I choose to be on display for a living, but that’s through people’s televisions. I don’t see them watching me.”
“You’re beautiful and magnetic. You naturally draw people to you. That’s why they’re looking at you. They can’t help themselves.”
I should know, I can’t help myself.
“Thank you.”
I squeeze her waist. “I mean it, Lucy. You’re special, and everyone knows it.”
“That’s sweet.” Turning her head, she rests her cheek on my chest as we sway. With our height difference, I don’t know how we fit together so well. Her heels give her a few inches of boost,but it’s not even about height. Her body fits against mine like she was made for me. After everything that happened with Destiny, I didn’t think I’d be willing to give another woman a chance. At least not this soon. But Lucy is a gamechanger. My heart may still be healing, but my brain is working fine. I’m smart enough to realize a woman like her comes around once in a lifetime and she’s worth taking a chance for. I’m ready to take things to the next level with us.
She raises her head, staring up at me. Christ, she’s stunning. I guide her hand to my chest. “You make my heart race.” I skim the backs of my fingers down her cheek and then palm the side of her jaw. She rises on her toes at the same time I lower my face. Our lips meet in the middle in a deep, slow kiss that has every inch of me reacting.
