I’ve barely eaten, and I know I should. But fear keeps me from being able to get a lot of it down, and I just want to get the hell out of here.

Keeping with my theme of dismembering the poor little daisy, I watch the petals fall to the perfectly round pancakes before noticing the edge of what looks to be a piece of white paper.

I pause before aimlessly dropping the flower and lifting my plate. And, low and behold, a note is folded and tucked underneath.

Staring at it, I can only imagine what this little game is. First the flower, now what a love note about how Finn is excited to marry and then torture me for the rest of my life?

I pluck the parchment, unfolding it with shaky fingers because I’m not sure I’m ready to read the contents when I notice the script of a female’s handwriting.

And I’m definitely not prepared to read this letter at all.

Sister,

If you’re reading this, then I’ve found a way to get you out. Through many failed attempts, Collins has found someone to infiltrate the O’Clery mansion, and it’ll only be a matter of time before help is on its way.

Cillian is going crazy over here and preparing an arranged marriage for me to the Russians. I can’t do it. Please find a way home as soon as possible. Cillian isn’t coming, and you need to find a way out of there with the one man I’ve been able to provide.

Please be safe, Haven. I love you.

The Russians?

Papa didn’t deal with the Russians. He called them barbarians and didn’t trust them. This only proves that Cillian is desperate for a means to build an army behind him.

For more backup.

And he’s using our sister as bait for that deal.

I re-read the note, making sure I’m fully cognitive of what is happening here. Unfortunately, I’m not fully surprised that my brother is using our sister. He’s never cared a lick for either of us, and he should be so blessed as to have sisters so that he can use us for his personal gain.

Taylen is fifteen, a virgin, the Russians will tear her apart, and only God knows what they’ll do to her. If they’ll bait Cillian into an agreement, then do exactly what he and Pa tried doing to the O’Clerys.

Then they’ll get the Kincaid’s fortune.

Unless Finn gets it first or my brother grows a brain in the next hour.

Cillian isn’t coming.

Averting my gaze from the letter, I rip it into shreds. He’s as worthless as a concrete parachute, and I’m not surprised that I’m on my own.

I just don’t know how or when to be ready to escape.

Picking up the pieces of the note, I limp over to the bathroom and flush them down the toilet so that no one finds them.

You need to find a way out of there with the one man I’ve been able to provide.

Taylen and I both need to find a way out because we’re on our own now.

And we need to leave this world behind.

FINN

The doorof Haven’s room slams against the bedroom wall as I take two steps inside and find her looking out her window.

She jolts. That long red hair cascades down her shoulders as she stares wide-eyed at me in fear.
