Unless it appears like an accident.

“I’m gonna go speak with your father.” She pivots then, and I push my lips together because there’s no arguing with her.

Mama will fight tooth and nail for what she believes in, but ultimately, it’s my decision.

“If you want to promise her that you won’t kill her,” Arlo admits. “I will.”

And he has every right to want to.

However, he’s not going to take that away from me. Not after all the things we’ve shared, and I have half a cracked skull and a bruised nose because of her.

“I’ll handle it,” I quip solemnly. “Father doesn’t allow or like Ma in business affairs.”

“But he loves her,” Kohen replies as if trying to say that I’m not going to have my way anyway. “And he’ll do anything to keep her happy.”

I glower at him. “Why don’t you shut up before I lock you in a room with my future wife, and you can listen to her bitch for the rest of the day.”

“She wouldn’t be with me.”

No. She probably wouldn’t.

However, they can sit there and idly chat away about me while I get tonothear either one of them.

“I moved the wedding up,” I tell my brothers because I haven’t been able to speak with our father yet.

“Why?” Arlo asks me. “That’s stupid.” I cock my head to the side for him to explain further. “Why would you want to deal with her for longer than you have to.”

A small smile graces my lips because the answer to that is simple.

“Because I’ll get to make her life a living hell just by having my last name.”

HAVEN

He did allthis on purpose.

The wedding takes place in the same dining hall where my father was shot and killed. The white flowers and tulle that now decorate the room do nothing to take away the reminder.

Of where I am and to which I don’t want to be.

Music from an organ plays somewhere in the room, but I’m currently being stared at by every single individual in the room, and they couldn’t make me feel more obsolete if they tried.

There are so many men in this space that it reeks of body odor and aftershave, making my stomach painfully knot.

The goal was to stride in here and not look terrified.

However, I’m surrounded by people I don’t know and getting married to a man that murdered my only living parent left.

Not even the magnificent white gown that Finn’s mother had me try on brought me any joy for today’s nuptials.

She tried.

But it was for nothing because I didn’t sleep a wink. I refused to allow anyone to brush my hair or put makeup under my eyes to hide the puffiness.

I don’t care what I look like.

All I desire is to disappear into thin air where no one can find me, and I can finally be invisible.
