“Leave me alone,” I profess through clenched teeth, watching everyone in the room have a merry time at my expense. “Maybe if I starve myself to death, then I’ll end this sooner.”

Finn’s fingers latch onto my upper thigh—and, thankfully, it’s my good one—making me jump in surprise before he puts a tad bit of pressure on it. “The only way you’ll bedyingis ifIgive you that gift.”

“There’s always the suicide idea.”

He releases his hold and scoffs at me. “You’re not that bold or brave.”

Aren’t I, though? I went after you once.

“Haven,” a male voice from my left coos, taking my attention away from the man who deserves it the least. “Can I have this dance?”

Kohen.

He’s dressed in a black suit like his brother, but with a white dress shirt underneath and his kind features spread in a smile.

I don’t want to dance.

However, I want to be away from Finn so it’s the only perfect opportunity to do so.

“No.”

That coming from my husband.

Kohen rolls his eyes, obviously used to his brother’s broody ways. “C’mon, Finn. If you keep her at the table all night, people are going to get suspicious that she doesn’t want to marry you.”

I think my proclaiming that I was going to murder him out loud at the ceremony took care of that.

Finn doesn’t bother to answer his brother, and I’m too scared to move. Afraid that he’s going to do something stupid and embarrass me further.

Not that it matters.

I don’t know these people. I’m never going to get to know them. And there are not my friends, so what do I care?

“Can I at least get her a drink?” Kohen solicits as I stare at my plate. “She looks parched.”

“She has water.”

“But a bride should be able to have champagne on her big wedding day.”

“No.”

I know I’ve said I hated this man a million times in my head, but I really can’t stand him further—if that’s even possible—right now.

“You asked for it,” Kohen mutters as he strides away and I’m not sure what he meant, but I know I’m never going to know.

We continue to sit in silence while everyone else celebrates. I take a bite of my food to appease Finn so that he doesn’t speak to me again and try to swallow it down without throwing up.

I never pictured my life turning into this.

When I was younger, I lived those princess vibes and how some handsome man was going to swoop me off my feet and make me fall madly in love with him.

Instead, I got the villain.

One who’d love to kill me once this is all over and my happily ever after is going to be cut short.

“Finnegan, you need to have your first dance with your new bride.” Glancing over to my right, Finn’s mother stands on the other side of him, sending me a smile as if this is the happiest day of her life. “You need to send a strong message.”

He glimpses over at her before unceremoniously dropping his metal fork to his plate with a clank, obviously irritated that no one will leave him alone.
