I don’t respond to her little comment because arguing isn’t my cup of tea, and I’d rather get home so I can drop her off, and she can go hide in a room somewhere.

My father and mother refuse to allow me to lock her up. Stating that it’s cruel now that she’s my wife and that we’ll talk about actions if she decides to escape, but that’s what she’s always going to do.

We have guards at the house but not an eight-foot brick wall that’s going to keep her in.

“Why did you do this?”

I’m not sure what kind of question it isbecause I thought I’d made myself clear so far.

So, I keep silent.

“You could’ve just taken the Kincaid clan if you wanted it so much. You didn’t need me.”

“I needed the next heir.”

“I’d never be able to take it from you.”

Rolling my eyes, I continue to drive down the road because I believed to be that she was smart before.

Now I’m not so sure.

“If you would’ve stormed in, and my brother was killed by your hands, I’m sure if you were to get that lucky.” I glower at the road. “Then what would I be able to do?”

“You have men that would still back you because you’re the heir, Haven. It’s how things work. Why do you think men gain and collect loyalty?”

“But I can’t lead them.”

“That’s why you could get a general.”

I see her shift out of my peripheral. “I don’t know anything about that.”

“That’s why the elders and most experienced are supposed to help.”

“But how would you know who to trust?”

“You don’t. You just watch your back.”

“Is that what you have to do?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because my men know the consequences of any silly ass actions they may take against my family, and there are three of me that will handle it.”

“Your brothers?” I don’t confirm the answer, but she’s right. Any bullshit that a man would try to stir up would be dead within the day. “I still wouldn’t be good at leading the Kincaid clan. You still didn’t need me.”

“I did need you. Now shut up.”

“I think you’re bored.” My brows clash together because what the hell does that have to do with anything? “I think you decided, hey, why not?And decided to shake up my brother. Life lesson, he’s doing just fine.”

He won’t be soon.

“He’s just going to use my sister,” Haven persists as she continues to have this conversation by herself. “And gain another stupid alliance with a group that’s only going to turn on him.”

“Then your brother’s an idiot like I always suspected.”

“But my sister—”
