I realize that this is a turning point in my life. Despite the uncertainties, I know that what I have with Emily is worth pursuing.

The moment of passion is shattered by the sudden clatter of items falling nearby.

It sounds like poker chips and cards scattering onto the deck, making Emily and I break away.

“What the hell was that?” I say as we instinctively pull away from each other, our eyes turning in the direction of the commotion.

It’s Chris.

Chris's eyes are squinting, and his posture is tense, like a coiled spring ready to snap. All around his feet are scattered poker chips and cards. His expression of disbelief mirrors the chaos of emotions that now fill the air.

Emily and I exchange a quick, apprehensive glance as we stand frozen.

Chris's silence is deafening, his gaze shifting between Emily and me, and the tension between the three of us hangs heavy in the air.

I muster the courage to break the silence, my voice betraying a hint of surprise and confusion.

“Chris, what are you doing here?”

He remains stern, his voice laced with anger and disappointment.

“I was coming for poker night, but I certainly didn't expect to walk in on this,” he retorts, his gaze piercing through me.

The weight of his words sinks in, and I understand the depth of his anger. It's not just about our age gap or the unexpectedness of our encounter; it's also about the fact that Emily is his sister.

Chris's presence on the yacht feels like an intrusion into a world that was meant to be private. I glance at Emily, who appears equally shocked by the turn of events.

I take a deep breath, attempting to diffuse the tension that has suddenly engulfed us.

“Chris, let me explain,” I start, my voice tinged with urgency. “Emily and I—”

But before I can finish, Chris's face contorts with anger. He interrupts me, his voice sharp and raised.

“Explain? You don't get it, do you? She's my sister, Alex!”

My attempts at explanation only seem to fuel his anger. He takes a step closer, his eyes locked onto mine, accusing and unforgiving. I struggle to find the right words to make him understand that this connection between Emily and me is more than just a fleeting romance.

“Chris,” I say, “you have to understand—”

But my words fall on deaf ears, drowned out by Chris's frustration. He's not ready to listen, and the argument intensifies, leaving me feeling helpless and torn between my affection for Emily and my friendship with Chris.

As the argument between Chris and me continues to escalate, the tension on the yacht becomes nearly palpable. Chris's face is flushed with anger, and he points an accusing finger in my direction. "You think I'm just going to stand by and let this happen? You may be my best friend, Alex, but she's my family! My little sister!"

I run a hand through my hair, frustration and desperation gnawing at me. “Chris, I never wanted it to come to this. Emily and I didn't plan for any of this to happen. It just did.”

Chris clenches his fists. "That's not good enough, Alex. You knew who she was, and you still went ahead with it."

I can see the hurt in Chris's eyes, and it stings like a sharp rebuke. I open my mouth to speak, to try to explain the depth of my feelings for Emily, but Chris interrupts me again, his voice trembling with anger.

“You need to stay away from her, Alex. She is mysister, for God's sake!”

With that, Chris whirls around and storms off the boat, leaving the mess of poker chips and cards strewn along the deck.

Watching him leave like this, and I can't help but feel a deep sense of regret and frustration. This argument was not what I had expected when Emily and I were sharing that intimate moment just minutes ago.

I watch Chris's retreating figure, his anger like an inferno, as he storms away.

She's his sister, and I should have been more considerate of that fact from the very beginning.
