“Oh, my god. Seriously? Yes? You’re amazing. You won’t regret it. Three months and you’ll be begging him to stay on.”

“He can’t catch a flyball, too, can he?”

I laugh. “Nope. You’re safe there.”

“Good. Give me his email, and I’ll send through the standard employment agreement and arrange a meeting.”

“Umm, can you send it to me?”

His eyebrows rise. “Why?”

“I want to surprise him, please?”

He shakes his head. “Fine. I’ll email it to you now. Get him to call me once yousurprisehim.”

“Amazing. Yes. Awesome. I will.”

“Now get me my copy by five. You still work for me, you know.”

“I know, I will. Thanks, Yarro.”

He nods and reaches toward the screen before it goes black. Holy fucking shit. It worked. Now I just have to tell Ian, and I know exactly how I’m going to do it. I pull out my phone and do a quick search, giant inflatable duck near me.

Rushing out of the room, I text Harrison. He and a few players are out having lunch with Ian. I was supposed to go with them, but I told Ian I wasn’t feeling great and hid in the bathroom. He almost didn’t go, but Harrison showed up and helped convince him that I would be fine after a hot shower and sleep. I didn’t want to tell him about what I was going to ask Yarro, in case it didn’t work out.

BRENDAN: Can you keep him out a bit longer, I need to set something up.

HARRISON: We just asked for the cheque.

BRENDAN: You have to stall. Do anything.

HARRISON: Anything? *Winky Face*

BRENDAN: I’m confident your charms will have as much effect on him as they did on me. Try something better. I need maybe an hour.

HARRISON: *Middle Finger* On it.

I call reception next.

“Hi, this is Brendan Grant, room three zero four.”

“Yes, Mr Grant. What can we help you with today?”

“Umm, is there any way I can use your printer?”

“I’m sorry, but the printer is connected to our systems.”

Crap.

“Can I maybe send something to you to print for me? It’s an emergency. I need it done now.”

“May I ask what it is, sir?”

“It’s nothing bad.” I laugh. “It’s an employment contract. I need to get it signed.”

“Ahh, sure, we can do that for you,” she replies, and I grab the laptop.

Yarro’s email is already there. That was quick. I click forward, type in her email, and hit send.
