“He’d probably just hold my life over your heads. If you take the slightest step out of place...” Anya clicks her tongue and makes a slicing gesture at her throat.

Instinctively, I pull her chair closer and rest my arm on the back of it.

“What do we know about Xander?” Bash asks.

“He’s thirty-one, boarding school in London, finished at the University of Cambridge, stayed there for a couple years. He spent very little time in Hong Kong. It looks like he only moved back a few months ago when Caishen forced him. He had a woman, but they haven’t been seen together in months,” I answer.

No one has to say it out loud, but we all know that timing is suspect.

“It looks as if he and his father are estranged. Thirty-one is a bit late to start learning the ropes in this world,” Anya observes.

“Either way, our only option is to kill him. If Xander becomes an issue, we’ll have to deal with it then,” Bo speaks up for the first time.

Grayson looks deep in thought. I still don’t trust the guy, but Anya is so glad to have a brother to bring into the fold. So far, he’s been on his best behavior, but I don’t buy it. Everyone slips up eventually.

I have men constantly tailing him. Any messages he receives or sends also gets sent. He still works with high-paying clients at the gym but has mostly stepped back and is now working with Anya.

I don’t understand why he got a degree and hasn’t used it. From what I could find of his history, he bounces from job to job. I’m not even sure why he needs to be here now, but voicing my concerns will upset my wife, so I bite my tongue until he gives me a reason not to.

“We need to be strategic about this,” her brother says.

That, we can agree on. If it was just us, I’d slit the man’s throat and call it a night, but with Anya in the mix, we can’t risk doing anything rash.

“He’s giving us until the charity event next week toget their affairs in order. He intends to dissolve the marriage,” Bo explains.

“That is obviously only going to happen over my dead body, so we need to make sure everything is secure and get a plan in motion.” I nod over to my wife.

“How can he do this? You don’t mess with a man’s wife,” Tao scoffs.

“Caishen has his own set of rules. He’s past the point of redemption. Even the Chinese government is limited to what they can do. His father and grandfather were both scum,” Bo explains.

“What’s our first step, then?” Grayson asks.

“Should he even be here?” I ask, nodding over at Grayson.

“Just say what you’re thinking already.”

“I’m just saying, you just showing up is pretty convenient timing.”

“Nico—” Anya starts.

“Caishen isn’t the only one gunning for my wife, and suddenly, a son of Peter Liu shows up?”

Anya widens her eyes to remind me of the men I have twenty-four-hour surveillance on him. “And you’ve vetted him—”

“Hash this out on your own time. First, we’ll need eyes on Caishen at all times,” Bash claims.

“You are both correct. We need a good strategy for attack. This must be approached carefully. Caishen Goh plays dirty. He doesn’t value human life. Women and children are of no consequence to him.”

“It’ll be a challenge. He works with a lot of low-level criminals and pays them cash on the spot, so we likely won’t be looking at any associates,” I explain.

“I think I have a plan that might work,” Kai declares.

“Well, don’t keep us waiting.” Bash waves.

“We take a page out of his playbook.” Kai beams, rubbing his hands together.
