Every last drop of us is spent between the three of us, and we end up in a pile of arms, legs, and relieved sighs on my bed.

Bennet is the first to prop himself up and peer at me, a veil of concern coloring his spectacular green irises. “Are you okay?”

“Don’t I look okay?” I kiss his full lips softly. “Yes. I’m wonderful,” I assure him with a sated smile.

In fact, every ounce of tension that followed me from the living room has now dissipated entirely, euphoria lingering in the aftermath of my very first threesome.

The men exchange a glance, and I wonder if this is going to make it weird for them now, but I don’t know what to say to alleviate any kind of awkwardness going forward.

Maybe this was just a one-off, a way to make me feel better. But what if it isn’t?

Strong arms encircle me, and Gabe draws me against his hard chest.

“Don’t overthink it,” he rasps in my ear.

“That’s good advice,” I yawn, closing my eyes.

No sense in trying to predict the future. For all I know, I’ll be out of a job tomorrow, anyway.

CHAPTER 13

Gabriel

I’m on my best behavior for the next couple of days, mainly because I don’t want to see Stella in any more shit. I can’t explain this protectiveness I feel toward her, but seeing her distraught the day Roy had come after her set me off. The tryst with her, Bennet, and I was my way of trying to put her at ease.

Bennet and I find ourselves bonding over the fire pit, drinking lagers from one of my breweries, as Forrest and Stella enjoy an afternoon riding ATVs in the woods surrounding the cabin—on video, of course.

“You think all’s forgiven with respect to what happened?” I ask as we settle into a pair of Adirondack chairs around the fire pit.

Bennet looks at me in surprise. “With what?”

I’m amused by his bewilderment. I gesture toward the prep trailer behind us. “Those clowns.”

Bennet’s shoulders relax.

He wants to talk about what happened the other day.I’m not opposed to it at all. It should be discussed, and maybe Forrest should know, too. There shouldn’t be secrets between us, not if we want this to work.

“No one’s mentioned anything,” he shrugs. “So, I guess so.”

“Don’t mistake their silence for forgiveness,” I warn. “In fact, I mistrust their silence more than their yapping.”

Bennet takes a swig of his beer but doesn’t reply, his eyes fixed on the flames in front of him.

“Hey,” I say, sitting forward. “Are you feeling uncomfortable around me now?”

Bennet’s eyes widen. “No, of course not.” He immediately lowers his voice and looks around, as if he’s expecting cameras to be recording him. I stand and gesture for him to follow me. He’s right to look for hidden cameras, even though he hasn’t said anything aloud. We’re too close to the house for this discussion.

Without a word, we both head into the woods to continue, and I pick up where we’d left off as we end up among the ponderosa pines in the thick of the woods. “Are you uncomfortable?”

Bennet scowls lightly, shaking his head as if I’d asked a ridiculous question. “No, of course not. Are you?”

“I’m not uncomfortable, but I feel like you’re avoiding me,” I insist.

“I’m really not. You were with Stella yesterday, so it was hard to talk to either of you privately, but I assure you, I’m not bothered in the least about what happened.” Bennet hesitates under a fir tree and looks at me. “Do you think that was a one-off?”

I shrug nonchalantly, but it’s a question I had been asking myself. “That really depends on Stella, doesn’t it?” He says nothing, but I can pretty much read his mind. “And no, she hasn’t tried to get in my pants again,” I add.

He rolls his eyes, and I study his face to see if that pleases him. It’s impossible to tell.
