“They should. You think your hatred runs deep? Mine has decades on yours.” Now he looks at me. “How about this, bitch? Since you did follow my instructions and got me all the jewels, I’m going to reward you in a way. I’ll give you an option. You can run, be free, but under one condition. You have to choose one of them to die.”

He lets me go and flings me towards the center of the room, causing me to stumble to my knees.

“Cat,” whispers Hendrick because I land in front of him, “choose and run. Choose me.”

“I can’t.”

“She chooses me,” Jac says.

“No! No, I don’t!” A sob breaks free. “Let them go and we’ll all leave.”

“Not a fucking chance.”

“Or let them go and kill me.”

“And have them come after me?” Gimboni says. “No.”

“You just said you bought your way into the table—”

“Shit don’t work like that, stupid bitch. Choose the one you don’t like as much, and he’ll die and the other might have a chance. Who the fuck knows?”

This is insanity. This is cruel! Psychotic! Just the thought of one of them dying makes my heart ache. There’s no way.

“I can’t do it.”

He grabs me by the hair to haul me up, and hot pain lances through my scalp and down through my body. “How about this? I keep you and you choose which one gets to pack his bags and run to a better life, and the other one stays to face the music? To bear the blame for all this. Hell, I’ll even put in a good word for you.”

“Fuck you.”

He presses his mouth against my ear, his hot breath turning my stomach. “Good idea, I bet you’re a hell of a whore. How’s your dick sucking skills? If you’ve got that pussy hound Jac Miller still sniffing about your cunt, they must be good.”

“I’m not touching you.”

“Like you have a choice,” he says. “If I decide to have you, I’ll have you.”

Then he lets me go, throwing me hard. I have to bite back on the cry of pain as the side of my face collides with the cement floor.

“You are going to fucking die,” Jac says. “Slow.”

“Your entire family’s dead. Kincaid’s too,” barks Hendrick.

“They can’t help themselves. Tiny fucking voices, bleating in the dark,” Gimboni says, laughing like Jac and Hendrick aren’t deadly. Even tied up, these men are deadly.

Panic climbing, I glance at them. This has all gone too far.

“I’m not choosing,” I say quietly.

Gimboni kicks me. “Fucking choose. I want the other to suffer. Choose the one you prefer. It’s Jac, isn’t it?”

“No.” I push the word out.

“The dark and icy Hendrick. Still waters run deep and so on.” Gimboni laughs. “Poor lost Jac. Always having to linger in someone else’s shadow.”

Jac snarls like a wild beast. “Shut your fucking mou—”

Gimboni laughs. “First it was your father. Now Agnossio.”

“No.” I stagger to my feet. “Not Jac, not Hendrick. I can’t choose.”
