“No, but I might buy it just to change the decorations.” He gets up from his seat next to me on the bed and wanders over to the heart-shaped lamp and fiddles with the gaudy thing.

“You really don’t own it?” I ask.

“I’m notthatmuch into myself. That’d be Narcissus.” Eros chuckles at his own joke.

“And you know him personally.” I roll my eyes at my ridiculous situation. “I can’t believe this is happening to me.”

“You are taking it better than most.” He shrugs. “You didn’t even piss yourself when you were about to die. Many do.”

I blush, thinking of peeing all over myself and on a love god. That would have been my luck.

“Would you like to eat? Mortals need to eat a lot, from what I remember.”

“Just because I have a few extra pounds doesn’t mean I’m a glutton. We don’t all have perfect god bodies!” I snap. Okay, maybe I do need to eat. I’m hangry.

Besides, I don’t agree with Eros. I’m not taking all this as well as he thinks.

His eyes bulge out in shock at my offense. “I didn’t say there wasanythingwrong with you or your beautiful body,” he explains. “It’s just that I don’tneedto eat very often, if at all. I was just trying to be considerate.”

“You just look hot all the time then. Great,” I deadpan.

“I suppose so.” Eros grins at the compliment, then he eyes my figure. “And, well, your body is curvy and gorgeous.”

I cross my arms under his intense, assessing gaze. “Is that appropriate for you to say to your employee?”

“Normally?” He shrugs. “No. But you do work for the god of desire now. You might want to get accustomed to sexy talk and flirting.”

“I’m acquainted with flirting and sex,” I argue.

He crosses his arms, mimicking me, and raises both eyebrows. “Do you remember who you are talking to? No. You arenotwell-versed in that arena.”

I huff, turning bright red with embarrassment. I can’t argue because the rude god is astutely correct.

“If I suck at the sex and desire stuff, then why the hell do you want me to work for you?” I throw my hands in the air in frustration.

“I didn’t say you suck, you’re just inexperienced. That’s fine, because I need someone like you,” he says simply, stepping toward me as if he’s closing in on his prey.

“A loser in love?”

“No. Abelieverin true love.” Eros leans forward and clasps my shoulders, gazing into my eyes. “I felt your belief and grief on the cliff. That’s why I showed up to save your life.”

I stare up into his beautiful face. His expression is so adoring that I actually believe him. For some reason, he needs someone like me for his job opening.

“Okay, sure,” I concede. “But I don’t know how I can help you. I might love deeply, but I don’t know how to actuallygetthe guy. That seems like an important job requirement for a matchmaker.”

“Don’t worry. It happens to be my specialty. Besides, I will personally provide on-the-job training.” Eros releases my shoulders, then walks over to the bathroom. “I will get a bath going so you can relax for a bit and settle your nerves, then we can go out to eat.”

I hear the water running and shake my head.

Cupid is running me a bath? This is my life?

I glance down at my clothes. I’m dirty from my cliff climbing. Opening my suitcase, I pull out a long-sleeved blouse and black jeans that I originally planned to wear on the shoot tomorrow. It’s not fancy, but it’s meant to look presentable while being durable enough to do my job.

Entering the bathroom, I find Eros testing the bath temperature for me. “Strip down and get in.”

“First, get out.” I point toward the door.

His eyes twinkle as if he’s amused I’m standing up for myself and denying him. I doubt he gets rejected much. It’s probably a novelty that I haven’t invited him to join me.
