“Don’t be long,” I grumble.

He drops the shavings on a small metal scale behind the counter, studying the numbers as they rise. “It’s a gram and a half on the dot. I can give you forty for it.”

I already know that number is tragically low, but I’m not in a position to waste time negotiating. “Give me fifty and I’ll get out of your hair.”

“Sure,” he replies quickly, leading me to believe I could’ve gotten more.

I doubt breakfast costs that much, so I’ll be fine until I can retrieve the block from Kimberly’s house and sell off some chunks to get myself back on my feet.

I take the cash that the boy gives me, hurrying out of the store and back on the street. Sprinting to the diner, I feel a new energy knowing that I have enough money to pay for breakfast. Kimberly deserves it after how accommodating she was last night.

Plus, I still remember how to be a man, even after twenty-five years in a building without women.

I do my best not to knock anyone over as I burst into the diner, wiping the sweat off my forehead with the back of my hand as I travel down the booths to where Kimberly is waiting.

There’s no steam rising from the espresso when I sit down. Was I really gone for that long?

“Sorry, um, something came up with work. Had to take a call,” I say, hoping she won’t inquire further.

“No problem,” she replies politely. “I’m just happy you’re back. For a second, I thought you made a run for it.”

I laugh. “From you? No way.”

She shrugs, lifting an iced tea to her lips. “You never know.”

I watch her lips wrap around the edge of the glass, and all my little perverted mind can think about is the way they wrapped around my cock last night. The feeling was heavenly, unlike anything I’ve ever felt.

I throw back the first shot of espresso, watching Kimberly closely as she sets her glass down. “No coffee?” I ask. “Or are you just naturally energetic?”

She smiles. “I might have some in a bit, but my guilty pleasure is sugar. Sweet tea in the morning wakes me up more than anything.”

“You’re absolutely frying your dopamine receptors,” I tease.

“Hey, you already did that last night.”

I throw back the second shot of espresso. It’s cold but it tastes miles better than the freeze-dried instant coffee we drank in prison. “No need for the sugar, then.”

“I still like it. Maybe I’m addicted.”

“We all have our vices.”

She leans forward, clasping her hands together. “And what are yours?”

I smirk. “You ever heard of the seven deadly sins?”

“Of course.”

“So, all of those,” I say, taking the last shot of espresso.

She laughs, tucking a stray piece of blonde hair behind her ear. “You can’t bethatbad.”

“You don’t even want to know, darling. Trust me.”

She taps a finger against her lips. “Hmm, you see, now, that’s just the thing. Idon’ttrust you. Not one bit, so I’m still curious to know what’s so terrible about you.”

“Everything,” I say with a wink.

The waitress comes before Kimberly can ask any more questions, and we order our food. She’s a light eater, which surprises me after knowing about the sweet tea. I guess that’s enough for a small woman like her.
